what's a spangle?

A spangle is a boiled sweet, kind of like a Jolly Rancher.
I wasn't allowed them as a child in case I choked on them. (I wasn't allowed to watch Grange Hill or Eastenders either but I was given free reign when it came to printed text. Oh, and I was never given colouring books because my mother thought it "stifled creativity" because you were supposed to keep within the lines.)
