wedding
getting married in august and costs keep mounting - we got the rings a couple of weeks ago, and they were shockingly pricey. still, we'll hopefully be wearing them for a long time to come.
it's all the fripperies that have shocked me about weddings too - flowers, cake, alcohol etc etc.

And if you stop wearing them
You can always sell them back. With the price of gold as it goes, you'll be making a good bussiness.

ha ha
what about the price of palladium, which mr vitamin c has plumped for?!
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:27, Reply)
Our rings were pretty cheap really, certainly compared to the engagement ring

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:31, Reply)
my wedding band is likely to cost about £30 or 40 as I want a tungsten one
mitigates the cost of the mrs's one.

I'm buying hers and she is buying mine; mine was more expensive as it was bigger!

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:38, Reply)
ours came to just under the engagement ring price
but my engagement ring was (according to friends and my sister) very cheap, as it was under a grand. Still fucking extortionate, but it's very pretty!
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:40, Reply)
If you think that's extortionate, your husband is very lucky!

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:42, Reply)
I may have mentioned elsewhere
that I'm Scottish. Anything that costs money is extortionate to me.

very cheap just under a grand?
I designed my gfs ring myself, it's made of palladium and has a reasonable sized good quality diamond in it and was less than a grand. from my experience the more expensive ones are fucking hideous clusters of gaudy stones.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:42, Reply)
Not true, I had our ring designed incorporating two of my fiance's grannie's engagement diamonds with a some new diamonds
and it looks lovely, classy and understated, but still bloomin expensive!
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:44, Reply)
how much are we talking here?

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:49, Reply)
Gazzed
But the rule that I had heard about was 3 months salary, although there was no way I was stretching that far!
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:54, Reply)
I've heard anything from 1 to 3 months salary
as it was, it cost me probably about half of one months, and the ring couldn't be more perfect.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:57, Reply)
hmm
I'd heard the 1-3 months salary thing too, mr vitamin c heard it, went white, vowed to get a job on minimum wage for a month, then calmed down when I pointed out that a) there's no way I'd wear anything that price, and b) it's jewellers propoganda anyway. Mine was about 1/3 of his (take home) salary for a month, and it's just what I wanted.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 13:06, Reply)
that's what counts!

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 13:09, Reply)
not really
most solitaire ones are ferociously expensive. I got a sapphire/diamond one, and when looking, found plenty of gorgeous rings which were in the 7-10 grand category. then I went all high street jewellers and found a nice one we could afford.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:51, Reply)
given that I got the best quality diamond I could get my hands, in a metal that isn't all that much cheaper than platinum
and that the diamond is (in my opinion) at the upper size limit of taste, I'm dubious as to whether 7-10 grand is not some kind of idiot or taste tax
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:53, Reply)
Platinum is a rip off, it's only shiney as it's covered in rhobidium which needs replating every year or so.

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 13:00, Reply)
I was unaware of that
palladium doesn't need it apparently. makes me more pleased to have used that.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 13:04, Reply)
possibly
I spent a pleasant afternoon wandering around Hatton Gardens in the pouring rain not daring to go into any of the shops in case they arrested me for looking poor. It was quite frightening how expensive the bloody things are!
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 13:00, Reply)
Sorry to butt-in but SEVEN TO TEN THOUSAND POUNDS???
Excuse me a min...*slurps coffee*....*Spits coffee at monitor in shock*
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 12:57, Reply)
I told Wiggy I want mine made of adamantium with an unobtainium stone in a square setting.
He claims to be saving up for it.
