weather people
here at least they err on the side of caution because of the slating they get when they get it dramatically wrong.

that said, I work next to the Met Office, and the current weather report for Exeter is often wrong, despite them being able to look out the window to see what it is doing.

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:27, Reply)
Thats cos there's someone in every circle who needs a good cheap bumming every now and then.

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:28, Reply)
this is very, very true.

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:29, Reply)
My bummings are not cheap
I charge a premium because of the exquisite angles of entry I achieve.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:30, Reply)
And because you claim to be free of STIs

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:46, Reply)
I know you didn't include them
But I could hear the inverted commas around "claim".

You're doing strikethroughs for no one.
Now come on, go and attack some blondes.

I'm safe as I'm orange.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 11:34, Reply)
and I'm dark blonde
so I don't really count
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 11:36, Reply)
Craaaaw?

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 11:36, Reply)
I should probably restrain myself
I've got to go and talk to some quality-assessment panel in ten minutes' time about what I think of my department and the way it treats its postgrads. Probably wouldn't look too good if I walked into the room and started pecking anybody with blonde hair.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 11:36, Reply)
you can do it!
Just do deep breaths, straighten your feathers and go and attack some first years when it's all over.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 11:38, Reply)
Ooh, of course, I've got that to look forward to this afternoon
If they can't explain their project to me convincingly then I'll peck them in the face.

Right. *smooths feathers*
Back in a bit.

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:27, Reply)
I forget the exact details
But mostly antiques. Large, noisy, ancient behemoths.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:31, Reply)
Aren't they replacing them soon
with a load of big, black IBM-built monoliths?
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:36, Reply)
They might well be
I'll ask him next time I see him, he only comes up when his missus (a friend of mine from way way back) comes up to see us.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:38, Reply)
I do know a few people there myself
Though they're more involved with the measurement side than the mahoosive computer models. Last time I was down that way they showed me the server room and told me about the sexy new computers they were going to install. Though they might have had those confiscated after the newspapers got into a massive frumpy flounce because they got the prediction for last summer a bit wrong.

I meant the person
I knew that this confusion (or faux-confusion) would happen
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:36, Reply)
He's awesome
Geeky, as the best of us are, and likes to tease his girlfriend something chronic. This is good because it used to be my job, back in school. I also fancied her back then, but that's by-the-by.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:39, Reply)
not from round here then I take it.
trying to think if I know anyone who works there
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:54, Reply)
Can't remember where he's from originally
He met my friend 'M' at uni in Exeter, they hooked up and have been happily together ever since.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 10:56, Reply)
" I also fancied her back then, but that's by-the-by."
Is it, though? Is it really by-the-by? true feelings? I only ask because I've watched a lot of Murder She Wrote and have come to know the dangers of supressing your true feelings.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 11:10, Reply)
I would've got away with it
If it wasn't for you, meddlin' Cave Duck.
