I'm off my crutches tomorrow afternoon, I'm almost able to walk without a limp AND I have a whole block of chocolate for the weekend. My exams are over, the school term has a week to go, and I'm wrapped up snuggly warm in my house listening to the rain.
Oh, and my flights, insurance and accommodation are all booked!
I realise this is an insufferably cheerful post, but I really don't care at the moment. I'm happy, which is a good thing.
if you really MUST have something else to talk about - why do the weatherpeople always seem to underestimate how cold or hot it's going to be?

weather people
here at least they err on the side of caution because of the slating they get when they get it dramatically wrong.
that said, I work next to the Met Office, and the current weather report for Exeter is often wrong, despite them being able to look out the window to see what it is doing.

I do know a few people there myself
Though they're more involved with the measurement side than the mahoosive computer models. Last time I was down that way they showed me the server room and told me about the sexy new computers they were going to install. Though they might have had those confiscated after the newspapers got into a massive frumpy flounce because they got the prediction for last summer a bit wrong.

that the predicting isn't hard in itself but that fact that weather is a chaotic system makes it very hard to measure accuratly enough.

She's comparing people who spend their entire life
doing a very complicated thing for the good of mankind, predicting tornadoes and floods and quite literally saving lives.
To people who con the stupid, emotional and grieving out of money using cheap tricks.

NO, THIS IS IMPORTANT
also kitty knows I don't mean it, and I'm pretty sure her post was designed to get a rise out of someone.

speaking of which
I read Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks by Christopher Brookmyre the other day. Which covers the latter topic. Worth a read.

I've read One fine day in the middle of the night
a tale etched in blood and hard black pencil
and another one whose name escapes me, in addition to the above.
all thoroughly enjoyable

oh really?
nice
in the one I just read one of the characters is a massive geek who loves firefly. there's also a bit in it at the end that says there's only one impossible phenomenon in the book on pages 151 and 152 or something, and if you get it forgive him for being uber-geeky and self-indulgent.
I flicked to the page and was appalled at myself for having noted it when I read it the first time.

in case you were mildly confused
it's fiction, funny and quite well-written if you account for the scottish-isms ;-)

It's a conspiracy
to make people either get too hot, too cold or too wet and consequently spend more money when out and about doing their daily business.
Also to piss them off, generally countries work better when people have somewhere to direct their mire.
