my sofa was £700, my wardrobe and chest of drawers probably about £1200 and my mattress alone cost £800
all some of the best value things I've ever bought.

I'm so glad I did it now that my friends are struggling to get on the property ladder. It was a bit scary because I thought I'm 18, I shouldn't be allowed to own property. I didn't know what council tax was though, I got an angry red letter threatening court action before I rang my mum and asked about it. But I assume you're not that thick.
I loved buying the furniture, I spent about £300 in Ikea but my place looked amazing. And because all my friends lived at home, my place was party central.
My advice would be to overpay your mortgage, even by just a tenner a month at first. It seems like only a little thing, but it's really good in the long run, cuts thousands off the interest.

I'm doing that, trying to put a bit extra every month, and I've managed to reduce the term in 2 years after 2 years that I started paying.

I should have been doing it while I had my flat. can't do it now because the mortgage payments on my house are so fucking large.

gave me very good advice there, and told me to put my monthly payments 100-200£ less than what I could afford, and make overpayments, as they go straight to your capital, you don't pay interest with them, and you reduce your term massively.

Council tax is definitely on the radar, my trip to Ikea is soon and thanks for the tip about the overpayments.
I was going to channel it back into the house but via savings and doing it up, but I think I'll just overpay by £100 each month!

but paying into the mortgage will be more rewarding than a savings account in the long run.
