Backing up my laptop's hard drive for 2 reasons:
1) So stuff's safe
2) So I could delete all uni-related files off my hard drive
Also meant all my CAD files and renders are safe from spazzing up. Again.

I can certainly out-boring you. The model of my drums is looking awesome though. Sadly, possibly looks cooler than my kit.

Is it for work, or just general interest? Software, etc?

They gave me a free student copy of AutoCAD and said I can use it for my course, but it's not mandatory so they don't teach it, but obviously stuff will look way better if it's done in CAD.

What kind of stuff is your college course about? If it's the new version of AutoCAD it will be able to do 3D, if not it'll be 2D stuff I think.

The degree is interior design, so it'll be interiors, buildings and perspective drawing, that kind of thing. The examples they've shown are 3D so I think it should be.

Brilliant quick, a bit of a cheat, and entirely free. It doesn't render stuff and look amazing, but pretty good for what it is.

if I want to ever get a job though

Then you should be able to move to other software pretty easily. Now if only someone would employ me for my awesome CAD skillz.

And am about to apply to 3 or 4 things. The problem is most say they want 2 or 3 years experience, and therefore none seem willing to give you that first 2 or 3 years of experience. Bitches.

even the junior design jobs say "requires at least 2 years experience" so it appears I'm expected to do a voluntary internship until I'm considered experienced enough to employ, which is extremely difficult when you need food to live.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, which need less experience, work half with unis and half with industry, but should count as experience when then applying for a job. And you get paid.

I was looking for an apprenticeship but they don't seem to do them for interior designers. The job prospects do look slightly better in Australia though so all is not lost

I considered it, but wouldn't be able to manage the setup costs.
(, Wed 4 Aug 2010, 14:54, Reply)
I think I would need to train properly before I could just start my own.
