Me too
From my penis.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:22, 1 reply, 16 years ago)
that too

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:23, Reply)
but VAST
would be better than Tool.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:32, Reply)
don't be ridiculous

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:33, Reply)
I'm not
I've listened to two Tool albums and find it difficult to tell where each song stops and starts
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:36, Reply)
that may be in part because quite a few of them transition from one to the other
occasionally based on mathematical series.

Generally though, the musicianship and song writing is outstanding.

I am something of an obsessive, but I love everything about their music.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:39, Reply)
I've always been surprised I don't like them
there's a few songs that are tolerable, but my brother constantly plays entire albums by them, and it just grates.

None are as bad as one particular song which I'm struggling to remember the name of by them. I think it was Wings for Marie
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:47, Reply)
I used to think you were cool
And Wings for Marie is in two parts, and is about his dead mum. You just insulted his dead mum. How do you feel now?
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:49, Reply)
well she wasn't much good
just lay there.

One day I'm sure that I'll give them another a shot. I did know Wings is in two parts- that's what I mean about the songs blending
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:51, Reply)
I find that a lot of their stuff, particularly the later stuff, is more like classical music
in it's arrangement and with the dynamics and stuff. Hence the different parts, and songs blending.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:52, Reply)
I think it's just too repetitive
Vicarious is pretty bad in that respect as well, to the extent that if I hear it I get a horrible itch in my back. Truth
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:57, Reply)
Maybe you should shower more
Follow in Jeff The Dogfucker's footsteps.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:01, Reply)
Charming
I think it's pure boredom, and a wish for them to do something interesting.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:02, Reply)
Maybe some of their earlier stuff would be more up your street.
Check the songs 'Hooker with a Penis', 'Aenima' and 'Parabola'.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:03, Reply)
I'll certainly give them a shot

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:06, Reply)
Stinkfist is also a good early one

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:12, Reply)
as much as I like them
Vast are far more repetitive!
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:04, Reply)
not in the least
though bear in mind that both of the Tool albums I've heard, I reckon must be relatively recent.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:06, Reply)
If they were Lateralus and 10,000days
then they are the more recent two, but the former is 10 years old or so
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:08, Reply)
well one of them was definitely
Ten 1000 Days
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:09, Reply)
if the other one sounded similar it would be Lateralus

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:10, Reply)
I'd guess so
I can think of two songs I like at least Prison Sex and Schism
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:11, Reply)
Schism is off Lateralus
And is a cracking tune. Prison Sex (also excellent) is off Undertow.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:14, Reply)
we're definitely talking about Lateralus then
because I heard Schism off that, and Prison Sex as a back tune to something else
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:17, Reply)
Schism was the song that first got me into Tool

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:14, Reply)
BETWEEN SUPPOSED BROTHERS

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:22, Reply)
did you know that the pieces fit?

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:24, Reply)
that just sounds like Papa Roach

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:24, Reply)
I think I'm going to have to put you on ignore

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:26, Reply)
Motion carries

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:29, Reply)
:( I didn't say I liked Papa Roach
I said that sounded like the sort of thing he'd write
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:30, Reply)
also, the second part of Wings for Marie is an incredible piece of music

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:51, Reply)
I almost believe you
but then I remembered that you though Them Crooked Vultures were also musical geniuses.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:57, Reply)
Al, you must like Tool
I rate your musical taste, don't disappoint me.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 13:58, Reply)
I've never listened to them actually

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:03, Reply)
Give 'em a punt

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:04, Reply)
I.e. Kick the boring fucks out of a window

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:04, Reply)
Go back to sleep

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:07, Reply)
He's still got a month and a half to go

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:08, Reply)
41 days to be precise

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:09, Reply)
counting bodies like sheep?

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:09, Reply)
*winks and finger pistols*

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:09, Reply)
John Paul Jones is an amazing musician
even if you don't particularly like their attitude or their sound, you have to admit there is some interesting and high quality music going on on that album.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:03, Reply)
^this I can agree with
then I look at the last 5 songs I added on Spotify and despair about my taste
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:05, Reply)
I don't have to admit anything of the sort
the album was highly tedious and uninteresting. I tried listening to it, I really did, but after three or four attempts, if nothing is grabbing my attention, it's not going on again.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:09, Reply)
that's fair enough
I can imagine that some of it might be a bit abrasive to listen to as well. I've gone off it compared to how good I thought it was to begin with.

There are still some musical phrases and timings on it that impress the hell out of me though.
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:11, Reply)
Do you like Judas Priest?

(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:17, Reply)
I don't know much of their stuff really
aside from Breaking the Law and maybe one or two others. Don't really do it for me aside from in a tongue-in-cheek way
(, Fri 20 Aug 2010, 14:23, Reply)
Is that a euphemism?
Like 'good with colours'?
