£150,000 plus VAT and costs

So it's a figure worth fighting for then.
Why not put a clause in that says..

'Unless you stop behaving like children you'll have to have a fight wearing the pink boxing gloves'

That might lighten the mood a bit.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell
i don't get to draft the clauses, you see. it only comes to me when it goes Wrong!

So is your client trying to claim, or avoid paying the service charge?

(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:49, Reply)
my client is the landlord
it has spent about £1.5M on the building and every other tenant has paid it. these jokers are sitting there with the benefit of the brand new air con and decor and lifts but refusing to pay for it.

they will be sued. oh yes. they will be sued.

Is going to court your favourite bit?

(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:52, Reply)
depends
it's interesting but terribly stressful. normally i wouldn't go to court for something like this, i'd just send the bailiffs in to take their stuff or stat demand them first, but for various technical legal reasons, can't do that here.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:56, Reply)
I'm imagining something between LA Law and Ally McBeal
With a bit of 'send in the heavies' for good measure.

If you like using bailiffs, have a gander at Operation Repo on YouTube. Nothing but professional these lads. Hell no.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:59, Reply)
ha thanks
i will do! always looking for new heavies to frighten away squatters and debtors... the more unprofessional the better...

I'm not saying they provoke those who property the need to reclaim but....

(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:51, Reply)
House
I am terrible at art and drawing, which is ironic really.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:52, Reply)
which room and what colour and do you want to come round and touch mine up too?

(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:55, Reply)
Kitchen woodwork, jasmine white.
I would love to come round and touch yours up.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 22:56, Reply)
make sure you bring your paintbrush
ideally it will be long and thick enough to make sure you get to all the hard-to-reach spots without splashing all over the floor.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:03, Reply)
I'm an expert brush handler.
I can reach all the awkward nooks and crannies.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:04, Reply)
i've got an image in my head now
of the closing credits of "brush strokes" where he is painting the wall.

and the theme tune was dexy's midnight runners singing "because of you". i fucking love that song. if i ever marry some unfortunate that will be our first dance!
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:08, Reply)
When I got married I had that played.
The marriage didn't last.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:09, Reply)
hmmmm
ok i'll put it in the possibly a bad omen pile.

of course, first i have to find a halfway decent bloke, then i can worry about what song to dance to at the wedding.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:17, Reply)
Granted. If we are using the fact my marriage didn't work as a gauge for cursed songs
You can add any indie classic to the list as well.

All I can say, is make sure any future husband is nothing like my ex wife.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:19, Reply)
has it made you cynical?l
or would you like to do it again someday?
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:28, Reply)
At the moment, I'd not get married ever again.
However. That could well change, subject to meeting the right person, and using the wisdom from the first experience.

What I got isn't what I signed up for. That was one of the most difficult things to cope with.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:32, Reply)
not all girls are like that
but then you know that, i guess it's just about waiting to feel ready to try it again
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:34, Reply)
What I signed up for and was expecting
Was the person who I'd fallen in love with to be fundamentally the same when we were married. Yes, both of us would change over time, get a bit older and a bit wiser and all that sort of thing, but core values were, I thought, fixed.

Turns out, people can change. And change quite a lot.

We were probably too young when we got married. Maybe that was it.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:37, Reply)
you never see what someone is really like
until you split up. some of the things i see when couples have split up and are dividing property is enough to make you swear off the opposite sex forever.

so long as it hasn't made you too scarred though. the next one will be different.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:40, Reply)
We'll see.
But seeing just how easily the last marriage fell apart - despite a number of proper goes at sorting things out and getting everything on an even keel - makes me wonder if life isn't easier with the 'being able to just walk away option' still in place.

It would have saved a few years of misery as we could have drawn a line under everything, rather than hoping the fact we'd got married made things worth persevering with.

I wouldn't have had those last 2 years with a 'girl friend' I'd have ended the relationship long before that.

Cynical? Just a bit.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:46, Reply)
the fact of "marriage"
is why a lot of people don't bother with it, i think you're absolutely right.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:50, Reply)
Get married.
It might suit you.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:55, Reply)
i doubt
anyone could put up with me!
(, Mon 27 Sep 2010, 0:05, Reply)
Is that because every time some disagrees with you and 'objects'
You put on a grey wig and shout 'overrulled!'

(Yes, I know you're not a Judge).

Why would you say that though? What makes you think you're unbearable?
(, Mon 27 Sep 2010, 0:07, Reply)
There's no such thing as the "right" person.
The best you can hope for is someone less infuriating than average.
(, Sun 26 Sep 2010, 23:58, Reply)
premature deafness might also help
