careering question
if you had a potential choice between living in brighton, working in london for a good stable company earning a set amount, but losing £4.5k a year of that to transport costs and travelling 2 hours each way, or living in brighton working in hove for a lesser known, potentially less fun company that has a lot more impressive links in the field you want to be in, earning the same or more but travelling for five minutes each way and paying the cost of the odd puncture repair kit, inner tube, and bike chain, what would you choose? bearing in mind you'd only been in the previous job six months and it will look a bit daft on a cv.
alt q: anyone know any good rock clubs in brighton?

alt alt q: is this week's qotw lame or what?

Don't live in Brighton
Would appear to be the answer.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 15:42, Reply)
but i want to live in brighton
plus, my main supplier of sexytime is going to be living there with me. if i move, i'll have to start auditioning for a new companion for my bawlz, just as i've got this one trained. plus i kinda like her around.

Well if you like your bit of clunge more than you'll enjoy the job in London
Then take the job in Hove.

Thinking about it, the 4 hours you'll be travelling for in London would leave you with less time with your other half, so take the Hove job.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 15:50, Reply)
i'm already IN the london job
been asked in for an interview for the hove one, which is a surprise, i thought it was a bit out of my league.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:02, Reply)
I'm pretty sure we got asked this already within the last week
And I'm pretty sure I didn't really care then either.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 15:52, Reply)
no you didn't
get asked. the caring thing is met with equal lack of caring about the lack of caring. if you don't care, don't reply. simple!
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 15:55, Reply)
I thought you had already asked this
and you explained why your gf wouldn't leave Brighton, and everyone called you pussy whipped.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:02, Reply)
nah, i was bitching about the commute to brighton
i got an interview for one of those jobs i didn't think my cv would even get through the filtration process of

Righty-ho
I have read through your post again and I would take the job in Hove.

And yes, the QOTW is shit.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:07, Reply)
i'm leaning towards that.
even if it does turn out to be a pig in a dress, it'll be damn sight easier to look for other jobs in the are if i'm not spending my days a 2hr train ride away.

I have little sympathy for people
Who are in the awful position of having 2 possible jobs.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 15:57, Reply)
i didn't ask for sympathy
i asked for advice. i asked because i've never been in this position before.
if you take the trouble to READ the question, it'll save you the trouble of coming across as a douche.
thanks for playing.

Manning up and making an adult decision
as opposed to asking a board of dangerous fantasists would be the best way forward.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:01, Reply)
Damn fantasists
With their massively over-active imaginations.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:03, Reply)
like
i know.. i wouldn't say anyone on this board is really dangerous though, unless maybe you're a limited edition star wars toy, or a packet of hob nobs.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:05, Reply)
I can see you right now.
How's that for dangerous? You've spilled something on your shirt.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:08, Reply)
it's designer bean juice
it's custom. or vintage. possibly both by the end of the day
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:10, Reply)
Dangerous fantasists?
I quite like that. Makes me feel edgy.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:08, Reply)
'Danger' is your middle name.

(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:14, Reply)
It totally is
Fantasist is my surname.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:16, Reply)
Is your first name Scaredof

(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:17, Reply)
It's Badgerisa

(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:27, Reply)
That's an awesome name

(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:30, Reply)
The CV thing is immaterial if you've been headhunted
And if I really couldn't decide I would flip a coin, because if it comes down heads and you're disappointed you know which one to do.

Or, you could just fly your magical unicorn to your London job and everything will be fine, unicorn reheeling costs nothing.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:11, Reply)
i was headhunted for the job i'm in now
this is one i applied for and they replied straight away 'can you interview tomorrow?' 'no i can't' 'oh ok no problem tell us whenever you can come in we don't mind'
it's not in the bag yet, but i'm positive about the outcome.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:13, Reply)
I've never been headhunted
but my job isn't exactly hard.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:15, Reply)
i hadn't until recently
but my job is not THAT hard either. though i think that's more because i enjoy it and not because it's for scopers.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:22, Reply)
Go for the Hove job.
The commuting will put stress on your relationship eventually, and will sap the "fun" element of your current job.
Clearly, if you were head-hunted for your current job, and the Hove people are keen, then obviously you're good at wahtever you do and I doubt that a future employer would overlook that because of you only staying in the job for six months, particularly as you have such a valid reason for leaving.

Good luck.

sound advice i think
plus the extra 4-5k a year will enable me to shower her in somethign other than man-fat.. like gifts. that is, if i wasn't such a cheap bastard :D i'll probably settle for redeeming myself through being around to cook the dinner more often, to offset all my wages going on camera kit and guitars.

extended strikethrough text lulz
and just cos it'll ENABLE me to shower, doesn't mean i'm going to.
(, Mon 18 Oct 2010, 16:33, Reply)
I was going to offer this advice,
Don't commute, it will kill you.
