but in my experience
it changes shape/hardness a little just before. That's when you either move away or brace for a mouthful

When you clean your teeth push the toothbrush further back until you get used to it.
Then a bit further and further etc

My teeth have gone wonky
Leaving me with a bottom tooth that will impede head giving. I think. I don't like it, anyway.
