6 Music tend to tell it like it is
If Huey Morgan likes it, I like it.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 20:47, 1 reply, 15 years ago)
Is he the FLC chap?
I've done a photo shoot in his flat. He's fucking lovely. Wouldn't buy a record off him, mind.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 20:48, Reply)
Why in the name of bumdering were you doing a 'photoshoot' in Huey Morgans's flat?

I've liked him since he told that story about making one of Hanson cry.

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 20:51, Reply)
My pal Richard
made Brian Molko of 'Placebo' cry at a house party once. I bought him a pint every time I saw him for about a year after that.

Hahahaha!
Fucking emo.

Full of very tasteful samples.

One of my favourite EVER tunes
is 'Soul Travelin' by Gary Byrd.

Soul II Soul fans will recognise the first couple of bars:

The backing track
is not actually samples - it's all replayed by the legendary Jimmy Castor Bunch, who were also responsible for one of the top, top b-boy anthems of all time....

I'm thinking
That you're needing 6 Music tomorrow morning.

Huey did that last week.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:11, Reply)
I recognised it from Halftime by Nas.
Thanks, I'd never heard of it before.

Ah, Nas, 'the good years'
Ever heard 'Live at the Barbecue' by Main Source?

His first ever appearance on record I think. It's a fucking rare record.

*polishes both copies*
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:08, Reply)
Have you heard of KRS One?
Now he is a fine example of a Rap artist.

Except for all that black stuff that he sees fit to 'rap' about.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:10, Reply)
I have no time for 'race music'
I make all my 'colored' records get to the back of my collection.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:11, Reply)
Black vinyl.
It's a fucking abomination, it really is.
All that segregation.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:12, Reply)
I only play 'white labels'

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:14, Reply)
I make sure that all my black vinyl records are filed under 'jungle'.
It's where they come from after all.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:15, Reply)
Trying to nick Jeff's POTD here?
A valiant effort.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:18, Reply)

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:23, Reply)
Nah you're safe.
He's still on a warning for liking 'sadcore'
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:24, Reply)

With the indie lable 'burning tyre' a small subsidiary.

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:19, Reply)
No, another new one.
Thanks again. The only Main Source track I know is 'Just A Friendly Game Of Baseball'.

Two copies eh? Are you playing the market?
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:15, Reply)
Nah.
I stopped DJing several years ago, really. I do parties for friends and did a 'History of Rock' night in Dalston - until the constant requests for chart music and 'r'n'b' made me so angry I walked out, leaving my records behind, about three months ago and only just got them back today.

I will gladly play at a B3ta bash though. No Iron Maiden though, so all the Pratchett lot will probably try to lynch me with their Simpsons ties.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:18, Reply)
Ooh, can I DJ too?

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:19, Reply)
You can wear what you like.

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:20, Reply)
*holds up 'NO SADCORE' sign*

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:21, Reply)
Of course not, you fruit.
When I play out it's breaks.

Though you and I probably have very different ideas as to what a 'breaks record' is.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:22, Reply)
I am very good mates with the Plump DJs you oaf.
Lee and I go back decades. They're 'breaks', non?
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:23, Reply)
Oui
Though, and I mean this respectfully, the Plumps are no longer the leading lights of the sound.

Shall we play breaks for Blousie?
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:25, Reply)
I have none on vinyl.
I'm sure they aren't - but I got the genre right though, didn't I?
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:32, Reply)
You did.
What year do your records go up to though?
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:34, Reply)
Hip hop 1979 up to the early 2000s
Rock'n'roll mid 50s-early 60s
Acid and rave 88-92 (plus a few hours of early jungle up to maybe mid-90s)
Garage punk 1964-6
US Punk '72-75
Psychedelia/Freakbeat '66-'70
Classic Rock '70-'75
oh and hardcore funk '70-'77-ish
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:37, Reply)
Aight. We could tie that up.

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:39, Reply)
Quite seriously
If you're any good I could probably get you something in Leeds.

My Sister's partner is Biff, who DJ's in The Wardrobe, Northbar, Sandanista etc..
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:25, Reply)
Interesting.
Were you talking to me or to Monty there?
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:26, Reply)
Either
Gaz me. Biff is fairly well known.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:27, Reply)
The Wardrobe does indeed seem to be the kind of place that Monty's style would go down rather well at.

(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:30, Reply)
I have manfully suppressed the desire
to make a shit joke about 'DJing in The Wardrobe' and 'coming out of the closet' and I think I deserve some credit for this.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:28, Reply)
*pats on the back*
one step at a time Monty, one step at a time.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:29, Reply)
I think you need to know The Wardrobe
Best club in the North. End of.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:30, Reply)
If I ever go to The North I shall give it a go.

You come to my bash and you can play whatever the mood takes.
Aberaccion does a mean tapas.
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:21, Reply)
That's a shame.
Good DJ's should be left alone. I'd hate to insist something gets played and when it was it turned out to be a total misfit. By the way, I'm still listening to some of the tracks you posted ages ago (some by the Sonics and the Wailers).
(, Mon 25 Oct 2010, 21:24, Reply)
I really do know what I'm doing.
I'm most glad you liked those garage records. That's punk rock at it's purest and best if you ask me.

Have another:
