They're being fucking bastards. I've learnt after a long and painful adolesence that when someone says something designed and calculated to make you feel bad, then they have done it on purpose. Not to help or to be honest, not to be straightforward. To hurt, plain and simple.
A major step is finding people who make you feel good about yourself, not people who prey on others insecurities
