Prejudice
"Are you prejudiced?" asks StapMyVitals. Have you been a victim of prejudice? Are you a columnist for a popular daily newspaper? Don't bang on about how you never judge people on first impressions - no-one will believe you.

Gay.
Click "I like this" if you too are getting tired of the gaming population using the word 'gay' as a stand-in for 'stupid.' As in, 'that last fight was gay, I died three times', or 'this game is so gay, my phat lewtz never drops!!!1!'
ugh.
and btw it's not cool to call someone a faggot because you disagree with his/her playing style and/or general in-game chat.
stoppit.

I rather believe you might be swimming against the tide.
As much as it might not be right, it's the way language changes. You could equally claim the rest of the world wants its synonym for 'happy' back.

Well put
I couldn't have said it better myself.
If it helps, I don't think too many people who use the word 'gay' as an expletive or pejorative in a gaming environment are using it with a conscious association to homosexuality.

I hate using 'gay' to mean 'shit', 'irritating' 'worthless' etc
but I can't stop myself doing it. Gah! Sometimes I will branch out into 'homosexual' though.

So?
How many other words do we use that would once have been offensive to a particular group, but which carry none of the original meaning, or where the original meaning isn't actually all that offensive any more?
Bastard
(to a lesser extent) Wanker (hamtoucher, etc.)
Hooligan (possibly originally an anti-Irish slur)
Bugger (derived from the French for Bulgarian, but even without that, mostly used with no reference to actual buggery)
the many people, who despite being entirely unreligious, will still use "Jesus", "Christ" or "For God's sake"

If MW2 has taught me anything, it's that apparently only homosexual people use under-mounted grenade launchers (Actually, that does sound a bit rude).

Why is it
that most homosexuals tend to react to the word 'faggot' as if you were calling them a nigger?
The word was in common use as a fairly unhurtful generic insult long before they put up a stink about it...
EDIT: Sorry, I replyfailed.

er
because it's not a generic insult any more, people use it as a derogatory term for gay people.
As for the OP, I say gay a lot, but it doesn't have anything to do with homosexuality, it's just a word for something annoying.

How can you complain about misuse of a word, and then in the same post use "btw" ?
