This is a question Money-saving tips

I'm broke, you're broke, we're all broke. Even the smug guy on the balcony with the croissant hasn't got two AmEx gold cards to rub together these days. Tell everybody your schemes to save cash.

Drive an old car.
I've never owned a new car, only used ones. The most I've ever spent for one was $5600 that I spent on an Amigo in 2000, which I still have and drive a fair bit.

Learn to fix your car, or at least to maintain it yourself. Learn to scavenge parts from the junkyard to keep it running.

And the best part is that you never have to worry about it being stolen. Who else would want that piece of shit?

Just remember to weigh up the savings against the increase in road tax, and the insurance racket's protection fees.

I drive a crappy looking old car, but its in a great mechanical state. The beauty of this also allows you a freedom on the road that my other half does not in her much newer car. The freedom of people looking at you an thinking "Im not going to cut that crappy car up, if he dents his car he wont care". Its amazing how few people try. Yet i drive my wifes car, its cunt city on the roads.

Very true. People never look twice at the old Amigo, and tend to give me room. But if I'm driving the Miata they feel as though they have to prove something.

Amateurs...
...I drive a Discovery, with Chunky Tires, Snorkel, and Steel Bumpers. Nobody messes with it. The one before that had lots of dents, and I had even fewer problems.

Agreed
Also (If you live in Blighty and rust is a problem) Buy yourself a cheap welder The price of £200 for a Mig welder has saved me £1000's over the years.
The other advantage of fixing / servicing things yourself is that it can be fixed as soon as you get the parts. Not when the Garage can fit you in 2 weeks down the line
