This is a question Money-saving tips

I'm broke, you're broke, we're all broke. Even the smug guy on the balcony with the croissant hasn't got two AmEx gold cards to rub together these days. Tell everybody your schemes to save cash.

Aldi
Buy a whole chicken, some veg, lentils/barley and some oven bread rolls from Aldi.

Make a nice roast Dinner with it on the Sunday.

Strip down the rest of the meat for your sandwiches/lunch at work.

Boil the carcass with an onion and a couple of carrots to make a stock. Chop all the remaining veg and then use the stock with some lentils to make a nice chicken soup and have it for your dinner with the oven bread rolls. I promise you’ll enjoy it – especially on a winter nights….

Near enough a weeks worth of good food for about £7

for a bargain price…

This sounds great
in theory, and gets a click.

Only problem is the time it all takes. I'm definitely not saying it's a bad idea or anything, but I can just imagine myself saying 'OK, boil the chicken and veg, peel onions, put it all in a liquidiser, wash it all up - or stick a lasagna in the microwave . . . hmm.'

I might try it this weekend though, I normally do lunch on Sundays.

chop and peel you veg when you make your roast and put it all the fridge for the next day...

you just need one big pan (like a pressure cooker size) and boil the carcass for about 4 hour-5 hours and leave over night.plus you won't need to keep an eye on it - so you can be sat watching tv whilst its cooking. add everything else the next day and leave to simmer for a good 90 mins and then keep the pan ready on the stove and just heat up when required. then you will only come to wash up when the pan is empty. don't bother with the blender either. Make it chunky...

It's like a meta tip

1st year of uni, one of my flatmates basically starved himself for a week, to shrink his stomach, and so reduce his outgoings on food.
Combined with his habit of stealing from the communal fridge, he was able to spend most of his money on hash.

I normally eat like a king - but when times are hard, i'd have this meal over super noodles

We do this and I'm glad it's not just us.
The missus has only recently got used to the idea of cooking with a carcass but on realising how nice the broth/soup tastes and the fact it saves a couple of quid it got easier.

Already do this, but I think I'd sooner pay the couple of quid extra extra and not have to eat a maltreated, cage-reared frankenchicken.

Also, cut the leg bones in half before making the soup...
