This is a question Sexism

Freddie Woo tells us: Despite being a well rounded modern man I think women are best off getting married and having a few kids else they'll be absolutely miserable come middle age.

What views do you have that are probably sexist that you believe are true?

Reading this qotw
...makes me think that there well may be no sexism as such, just disdain. One could be forgiven for thinking that alot of the sexist encounters outlined here are borne out of meeting utter cunts of whichever sex, rather than a view of the whole of that sex. Or maybe that's what sexism actually is - disdain without good reason.

I'm trying to think of a sexist view that I have - can't really think of one, as working in a male dominated profession for over ten years a few years back got me exposed to just about all the sexism I could stomach for one lifetime.

Oooh hang on - men don't appreciate flowers. They have no idea how lovely they are, from the most complicated lily to the smallest forget-me-not.
I genuinely believe this to be true. I've never met a man who personally liked flowers - I've known plenty of men who give flowers as a "tool" or "gesture", but none who actually liked them as objects of beauty.

I like flowers
But I'm a Plant Science Graduate so I suppose I love their engineering rather than their beauty. Does that count?

Some appreciation of engineering is an aesthetic appreciation
So I think this counts.

on the infrequent occassions I get flowers for my girlfriend
it's me that cuts the stems (under water of course) and puts them in the vase; I always choose my own colours and types, and I always add a rose which I know is a cliche but she likes it. Always me that changes the water too, which annoys the hell out of me!

Probably stems (pardon the pun) from when I bought some for my ex and she left them in the box for 5 days. The same box in which these particularly lovely and not inexpensive orchids had arrived, by air, directly from Thailand. This is one of the reasons why she's the ex, unappreciative cow!

Flowers
Cut flowers always put me in mind of imminent death.
I would much rather give a potted plant or flower as a gift.

Flowers look their best in a field or forest somewhere, IMHO of course :)

This
With (hare)bells on.

Some time ago Best Beloved bought me a bunch of roses for Valentines day, lovely girl that she is.
Within a week I had a big vase full of stagnant death.
Very sad. But I didn't cry, for I am a man, and thus strong...

Next year she got me a Whole field of flowers and I cried like a girl.

Really?
I have rarely seen anything so beautiful as the moment I captured this on an early spring morning a couple of years ago.

When I lved on my own
I always bought flowers for myself to have round the house - lilies - and failed in the eyes of the female check out staff when they said "do you want those wrapped" and I said "no, they're for me". I could almost see the speech bubble going "no, they're for your boyfriend".

I am (last time I checked) male.

I'm a horticulturalist
and I love flowers!
But I defiantly prefer them with roots on and in the ground, happily growing.
My favourite has got to be one of the annual Nigella's such as this www.herbies-herbs.com/pages/herbpictures/nigella7060lg.jpg
Gawjus!
