This is a question The Soundtrack of your Life

Che Grimsdale writes: Now that Simon Cowell's stolen Everybody Hurts, tell us about songs that mean something to you - good, bad, funny or tragic, appropriate or totally inappropriate songs that were playing at key times.

Final Fantasy VII "Anxious Heart"
I've been completely obsessed with this one since I was eleven.

-When I was playing the game, I left it paused on the train graveyard for two hours the first time I played it, until my mum threatened to throw the PS1 out of the window.

-It was the first thing I learned to play on the piano.

-It was the first thing I put into a midi sequencer, when I started my music tech A-level.

-I discovered OCR around the age of 14 and have probably listened to the remixes of it on there more than the people who made them.

-It was the first thing I made a remix of. The style of it also influenced the first soundtrack I composed for a film studies student (in the first year of my degree.)

You'd think by now I'd be sick of it, but I'm listening to it now for the millionth time and I still get chills.

It's not funny, and I think I'll get some people telling me off since this isn't a "your favorite song" question, but TBH it shaped my life more than any other one piece of music.

(If anyone else knows and likes the piece I'm talking about, I totally recommend going onto www.ocremix.org and getting the "Heart's Anxiety" remix. It's amazing. :) )

Ooh, thank you :-)
I couldn't be fussed to open another tab just to find a URL when I was typing. :P

Watched the new FF13 preview vid on XBLive,
Leona Lewis has done a track for it, kinda fitted the feel of it too.

With me, I used to be awe-inspired with the SNES game Axelay, 2nd level background music, very good score to it.

I listened to the main "song" and I have to admit I shuddered...
IMHO I think Nobou Uematsu is unbeatable in the FF series, but then I can see that his often simple style might not work too well against their "MOST ADVANCED FF GAME SO FAR OMG!!" scheme.

Saying that, I haven't heard any of the actual soundtrack, just "My Hands", so maybe I'm not giving it a chance. ;)

EDIT: I've never heard the Axelay soundtrack but I've listened to remixes and enjoyed them.

The Axelay track is a mix of sort of urgency
with an overlaid opera choir, tis a goody.

Have a click.
FFVII was a big part of my teens. First borrowed if off a friend and when he wanted it back, I stayed up all night to complete it. First all nighter I ever pulled. Still had an hour to spare before my mum was giving me a lift to his house as well. Epic game, still the best in the series for me.

Same
big part of my teens too, although it took me over 99 hours to complete! (first FF game I ever played, and I also, think it was the best)

Same for me
The first time I played it, it took me over 8 hours to get out of Midgar and on to the bike chase. Good times.

only last year
3 of us went to a mate of mine's house, fired up the PS1 on a big projector screen on Friday night and playing without stopping (sleeping in shifts) until we completed it on the Sunday. Didn't do the chocobo breeding to get the knights of the round summon, due to time connstraints and left the weapon fights, but other than that. all done. best weekend evaaaaaa.

Did you get KO'd at all?
I imagine that it must have been the most irritating thing ever, if you were just trying to get through it. I did a similar thing with my brother playing FF9 on new years eve ("How far can we get before 2010?") and because we didn't bother to level up we got owned pretty fast.

Now THAT
is hardcore.

I like the fact that you slept in shifts. That is true commitment to the cause.
