Teenage Crushes - Part Two
Freddie Woo writes: I've still got weird feelings for a well-known female TV presenter from the 1980s. I'm now in my forties, work in the same building as her and she follows me on a number of social networking sites. And now, she knows about it.
Tell us about the teenage crushes that still make you go wobbly.

Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
And, just so we're clear, I don't mean James Marsters, although I'm sure he's a lovely bloke. I mean the character, Spike, complete with the makeup, the wardrobe, the low-grade evil, the high-grade ineptitude, and the candlelit crypt.
Yes, I know, vampires aren't real. Yes, I know, Buffy is often lacking in plot, character depth, acting skills and suchlike. Yes, I know that there was no excuse for the musical episode.
Nevertheless.

My missus would concur with you on that one.
James Marsters - Meh.
Spike - WIN!
I got her a Spike puppet a couple of Christmasses ago. Best Christmas present ever according to her.

Oh yes! I LOVE him!
I especially love it when he says "Bloody hell" or the episode where the Red Indians come to thanks giving dinner "A bear! You made a bear! Undo it!! UNDO IT!"
I even went as far as to see James perform solo at a gig in London back in April but it just wants the same, he was all 'merkin and bronzed and I wanted, with every fibre of my body, for him to burst in to "I died, so many years agooooo..."
Fight you for a go on him

Angel was way hotter
Although he couldn't do an Irish accent any better than Spike could do an English one. Why do Americans think we all talk like either Sid Vicious or the Queen (here represented by Giles and Wesley)?
Also, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was and is stunningly good TV, even if the lead actress was a bit crap. Although you get points for having the nerve to diss The Whedon on a geek forum

I concede the accents point,
but I didn't find Angel (or the actor who played him) physically attractive - too "pretty", too good-boy. Even when he was being evil, you could still have introduced him to your mother.

He had a sexy smoking a fag and playing pool pose too. I also liked it very much when he sang My Way. So much finer than Angel too.

I suspect
that part of it is that he was one of the few characters on aimed-at-teens TV who was allowed to smoke and yet still be sexy, without it being a "smoking kills you in 3.7 seconds, mmkay?" kind of episode. As I recall there were only ever a couple of mild rebukes, like when Xander says "those things'll kill you" and just gets a dead eyebrow raised at him by way of reply.
