Tightwads
There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.
Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

This week
There are going to be a hell of a lot of stories about stinking rich yet hopelessly tight people.
I don't suppose it will actually occur to anyone that there is a very good reason why THEY (tight) are rich and YOU (generous) are not.
That is all.

You are right of course..
..My rich father and his mates are living proof.. they are presently clawing back every last penny lost in the "credit crunch" even it makes the debtor go bankrupt and lose their family house. My parents are presently in Vietnam on holiday, but much of the time the house has been occupied by Mike, a business partner of my dads, who is trying to claw back about 0.05% of what Mike is worth from someone who stands to lose everything. Mike refuses to ever answer his phone, turns up anytime he likes and expects dinner everynight so that he can bore us with his thatcherite theories about "the crisis". He is worth 40 million..

Damn
I was going to post a comment about that theory. You've given a watertight example but I still think some people use it as a lazy stereotype.
Ever heard someone moan about a rich looking guy haggle then hear somebody say that's the reason why they are so rich. It often sounds like they think it's the only reason said person is rich and it's totally unfair.

You're right
but the Lord loves a cheerful giver and so do the giver's mates.

I never said
That I liked tight people. I was pointing out that being tight is a very good way to get rich.
I will never be rich.

I've always believed
that there's no point in scrimping every last penny and having loads of money but living like a pauper. You can't take it with you, after all, so why not enjoy what you have while you can?
What especially gets me are filthy rich people who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes but want to take advantage of all the tax-supported useful things in society while expecting the working folks to pick up the tab. One guess where I think they can stick that idea!
