I thought I knew how to keep an edge on my kitchen knives until a chef friend came round, laughed disparagingly at my expensive "spoons" then showed me how to sharpen them properly.
Unfortunately, he didn't have time to show me how to chop safely, so I'm now mostly preparing meals based on red sauces.
