Got an IT problem at work?
Phone your IT department, explain the problem then while they are explaining a solution to the problem, feel free to chat to your colleagues in the office or someone who has just dropped in. The IT type won't mind at all having to explain the solution a second or even third time.

Addendum
As the IT support person carefully explains the exact steps required to fix your problem, feel free to try something completely different and give them a running commentary. For example;
IT: "Now, can you see the 'My Documents' folder? I'd like you to right-click on it then select Proper-'"
Twat: "OK, I'm just going to try opening Outlook..."
IT: "No, just right click the-"
Twat: "Should I do a Control-Alt-Delete?"
