got a nice geeky question for you
I need to edit a short film and then make it into a professional looking DVD.

In the past I have only ever done this on a Mac, using Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro.

This time round I intend to use a PC and Adobe Premiere.

Is there an equivalent program for PC that will do what DVD studio Pro does? (allow you to build chapters, menus etc and burn a finished film to DVD)

Why bother changing?
The two programmes (FCP and Premiere) are exactly the same. Apart from the shitty way Premiere handles titles.

I don't own a Mac or have one in the office

Right.

and FCP is significantly more hardcore than Premiere.
This is not a switch I particulalry relish.

and .avi files

Adobe Encore
but I';m sure there's free shit floating the net that will do it to.

Most PCs come with some rudimentary DVD creator software these days

I dare say there is some rinky-dinky program that can bang out a crappy DVD
I was wondering if anyone knew a half-way decent one.

Only half-way decent?
Have a look at Power2Go.

It came free with my computer, so I'm not sure how much it costs or anything.

><
Sorry, I'm not making myself very clear.

Does anyone know a DVD making program that isn't the kind of thing that comes free with your computer when you buy it from Comet?

If so, have you used it?

Adobe Encore

uLeads DVD factory comes to mind
muVee Producer 5
etc
(, Thu 31 Jul 2008, 10:13, archived)
Have you used any of them?

(, Thu 31 Jul 2008, 10:15, archived)
no, Ive never used a computer
im typing this into a wind-up mechanical fish
(, Thu 31 Jul 2008, 10:17, archived)
Which would you recommend?
DVD making programs that is, not mechanical fish.
(, Thu 31 Jul 2008, 10:17, archived)
this is just about the best reply I've ever read.
and has caused an office lol of such absurd proportions that I've had to explain myself to coworkers.

i like to use Sony Vegas 7.0
for editing the film
and Sony DVD architect 4.0 for creating it into a DVD, with menus, etc

I hope this turns out as interesting as the pens thread did

but I guess you could do it in something like sony_vegas

the basic Nero pack which you can get free with a DvD writer
is very good for anything basic-to-medium. To be honest your phrases such as "Does anyone know a DVD making program that isn't the kind of thing that comes free with your computer when you buy it from Comet?" aren't terribly helpful as you're not telling people what features you required that the basic ones don't have.

What exactly do you need to be able to do with this thing?
