becuse his ego is bigger than his songwriting talent.
he should have quit the music industry around 1969/1970

he wrote one of the most recorded songs ever - Yesterday. He was talented once.

i agree he did a lot of good with the beatles - my comment about his songwriting pertains to recent years

His lyrics were fantastic, hence the success of Yesterday and Hey Jude amongst others despite their melodic shortcomings. But not every song he wrote had the vocal quality required to make up for the musical shortcomings, and so his quality was always limited.
John, on the other hand, was original and provocative, even if sometimes his lyrics lacked the widespread empathetic touch that makes a good song a classic.
For proof: what's recognised as the best song ever (besides perhaps Bohemian Rhapsody)? It's John's "Imagine," not anything Paul wrote.

imagine or yesterday?
actually, those two words seem to say an awful lot about lennon and maccas

four bars from the end of Hey Jude didn't really do it for me. Partly because some idiot gave Mariah Carey a mic and she then gave it to those stupid african kids.

its fashionable too although there are some good jokes about him.
Paul has his family round the dinner table and says he has good news and bad news. The bad news that your mother Linda has died, the goods news however is that its friday so its steak night.

that he bought Heather a plane for Christmas.
He got her a shave for the other leg.
She tried to take it back, but from a legal standpoint she didn't have a leg to stand on.

and undeniably he's a lyrical genius, but his music is shite, and has only got worse over the years.
I swear to fucking God, when they shot John Lennon, they got the wrong one.

Lennon would have carried on writing miserable bollock poetry and dodgy art shit.

in fact he wasnt even the best drummer in the beatles. In fact he still isn't.
but he reads train stories very well.

The funny thing about The Beatles is that none of them (bar maybe John, but then I'm a fanboy) was especially brilliant at their craft, but corraboratively they were masters of music. Just goes to show that not everything need be perfect to get result, as long as it all fits.
Oh, and for the record, the finest drummer in the world is Dave Grohl. Nirvana fans may disagree, but anyone who has heard QOTSA's Songs for the Deaf cannot deny that he fucking owns.

in SFTD thy recorded all the drums in two runs - all the cymbals were done separately, thus making grohl's drumming appear much cleaner and more elaborate than is at first apparent.
but still, he did a damn fine job.

but Do It Again proves his quality, and I'd be surprised if he hadn't overlaid it himself because that's just the way he is.
