There seems to be a lot of "why its great as it is".

I find it hard to believe that anyone can look at the board format and not think that it really SUCKS for conversations.

Its a good format for posting images, and links.

It is not a good format for chat.

You have to scroll ALOT to read what has just been typed and with all the indenting things get daft after just a few replies.

The board system here was clearly designed for a different function.

It just makes sense to me to use the best suited tool, rather than "what there is"

This place has managed fine without being in irc format for the best part of a decade. Some new person coming along and declaring that it's shit and should be changed is going to do little except be met with cries of 'fuck off.' I can see how it's clunky compared to a streamlined chat system (which it was never designed to be)
and a bulletin board for individual topics and things.

It was just a copy of the original board, but without pictures. If you stick around and see how the regulars post you can follow
conversations down in chevrons and across to the other side of the page.

I suppose some of us have made tens of thousands of posts on here (I'm on 65k or something) so we are so used to this format that we like it.
