my fridge has a dial from 0-5
is 0 coldest or is 5 coldest? do all fridges follow the same rules? does the dial represent temperature or cooling power?

It’s the same principle as the numbers on your toaster.
Possibly they mean something, possibly they donβt, but we mere mortals are not allowed to know.
I just think of them as Arbitrary Cooling Units (ACU) and Arbitrary Toasting Units (ATU). I hope this helps.

On a toaster they're usually a time interval. In minutes.
If you can cope with something as Stephen-Hawkingishly mind-bending as that.

"Elevenses" sounds like something Gollum would say and Bilbo would eat.
