Morning chums
I went out with my dad and his mates in their classic car club jaunt yesterday. He's got a '58 Morris Minor Traveller. I had a bit of a drive in it and if you ignore the fact that you can't use the brakes and clutch at the same time, some grease is dripping into the drum on the left so it pulls to the right when you DO break and the fumes that come in from the exhaust it's a lovely thing.

the smell is the main thing putting me off classic cars
emmissions these days are so low you forget how fucking smelly cars used to be

These pampered old motors are so well maintained they're not that bad
the old codgers driving them spend more time fettling their cars than driving them so the engines are better than they'd have been out of the factory. The biggest risk is getting into a long conversation with Malcom about the history of of the overhead cam design in his Triumph Dolomite Sprint while he's lifting the bonnet to show you how clean the engine bay is (yes, Malcolm, it was the first production car with an OHC, yes, Saab shared the same engine...) I had a great time!

What happens if you try to use the brakes and clutch at the same time?
Do you get arrested and thrown in jail?

If you've got the clutch in and you press the brake you get the brakes
but you can let the clutch out and it doesn't engage the engine which is a bit scary when you want... no.. when you NEED engine breaking to help slow the car down because the drum brakes are very, very weak.

My dad's got some upgrades that he'll do over the winter.

It also has indicators AND semaphore signals.. but... when you put the indicators on the arms don't just come out and stay out they rise up and down with the lights so it sort of does a funny dance.

Nice and nippy though from the 950cc engine. Surprisingly comfy despite having leaf-spring suspension in the back and being wooden framed it's very squeaky, bit like driving an old shed down the road.

Now that we have a social media ban for under 16s, can we please also ban it for the over 50s?
If I get another sappy facebook message from my mum, I might have to shit in a box and send it to her.

Well, on the one hand people are always saying 'Good morning' to each other.
But on the other, there is a plug socket pulling its cheeks apart on the fp.

in addition to pre-internet brain, and internet brain, certainly there's a web one and web two, is it, brain...I do notice as a Long Time Resident here and having tipped quite a lot of my psyche into it, years ago...there's an early internet brain and a later internet brain. I know I definitely, DENIFITELY thought and learned and interacted differently pre-internet, no shit sherlock, uh-huh...but I also notice I thought and learned and interacted differently in Early Internet, specifically here

tl;dr: please send me something surprising in a box :)

maybe...smartphones a huge factor. there's something else, though. I've been worrying after it for ages. Years. There's something I can't get to. But I will. I will
