He was a real inspiration to me when I was young. He was a man who loved art and enjoyed himself. He made growing up not seem so bad - if you could be his age and still love being creative it meant that adult life couldn't all be boring.
I think it was watching Morph, with it's cheap production values, that inspired me to get into animation. It showed me that you didn't have to have amazing skills to be able to produce something that others could enjoy, you just had to have a bit of heart in it (no pun intended). From this, you could say that his inspiration planted a lot of the seeds of who I am today.
A sad loss for us all, and my thoughts are with his family, but his sense of fun and his influence most certainly won't be forgotten.

How's Johnny Ball feeling these days? :/

Hart made art fun.
Ball made maths fun.
Postgate made demonically-possessed Welsh trains and toys fun.

It's a fitting tribute that a simple picture like this can express the emotion better than any number of words.

Taught myself to draw growing up watching him. And of course Rolf. They'd better not take him too...

I second it.
I mean, I think it's a good idea. I'm not suggesting that I want two black borders. That would be stilly.

I came to b3ta.com to see what tribute there was to Tony Hart, and was pleased to see this on the FP.

Tony Hart was the reason that I picked up a crayon in the first place back when he did Vision On.
A national Treasure and a Legend.
Excuse me. I'm welling up.

The worlds a better place for your having been here.
I'm slightly curious about the "Contact Tony" option on the bottom of his website though...

Without a tear coming to my eye. Tony Hart is the reason my brother and myself are into art and graphics as much as we are. :(

Thanks Ms Morbo for putting it so well. I've been checking the b3ta board since i saw news of his death and i'm glad you've got the FP. We all owe him a debt of gratitude. Morph gave me a love of stop motion animation that's made me the animanga i am today.

My hero :(

I was just watching Charlie Brooker and his review of childrens tv - esp Oliver Postgate. Only now I can realise the brilliant simplicity of it all and how they both got it so right - Hart and Postgate, utter legands. B3ta wouldnt exist without them and then the world would be just rock and water.

Childrens TV still needs kindly uncles, dammit, instead of neon tosspots.
Even if some of them lied when they said all children could draw - I was living proof...

This man opened up my creativity, much like many others who have posted here and, I am sure, thousands besides. I've never been great with pen and paper but he certainly helped get me where I am with photography. I also admired his calm, a rare person who was almost permanently at peace with the world.
Farewell, Sir. The world is a little greyer without your colour.

A great, great loss.
Celebrate the great works of Tony by acquiring an mp3 of The Gallery Theme and playing it quietly at your workplace. They'll all be humming it for weeks :-)
