This is a link post 11-year old student gets tazered
In what seems like a now daily series of tazer stories from me, have the youngest one yet.

It just keeps getting worse...
(, Fri 1 Dec 2006, 14:20, , Reply)
This is a normal post Ok, the report says that he was assaulting another pupil
But I'm guessing that an 11yr old isn't that difficult to restrain.

This is a normal post and a girl at that
... not feeling the kids pain tbh
(, Fri 1 Dec 2006, 14:40, , Reply)
This is a normal post Sounds like
they are prohibited from restraining through actual bodily contact.

"They say the boy was physically assaulting a female 6th grader and refused to listen to verbal commands to stop. As a last resort the officer tasered the boy twice"

Probably less likely to be sued for tazing than possibly bruising a kid.
(, Fri 1 Dec 2006, 14:49, , Reply)
This is a normal post good point
i remember reading the Rodney King case that LA police are not trained in restraint. If a suspect resists arrest, the first step is to break their arms(!!) - though that was after a few non-effective tazerings, too.

This is a normal post hahaha
now that's the kind of firm, american, logic we could do with in this country.

"i was concerned that, had i restrained him physically, i could have been labelled a peadophile, or caused the child stress, shock, pain or injury. therefore i shocked the shit out of him instead"
(, Fri 1 Dec 2006, 14:53, , Reply)
This is a normal post In the UK
we've actually just relaxed or legislation about this a little.

Teachers are permitted to physically restrain a pupil if they pose a threat to themselves, the teacher or another pupil.

This is a normal post Wanna hear a *slightly* related story?
Back in the early seventies when I was a wee toddler my parents bought me a Golliwog. Cut to some time later when my Dad takes me on a bus, and on this bus was a young black lady.

You can probably guess the rest, but basically I started pointing and shouting "Golliwog!".

Apparently the woman was really nice about it which made my dad feel even worse, and the Golliwog went straight in the bin the moment we got home.

I was too young to remember any of this but I still feel like a twunt when I'm reminded of this.

This is a normal post ok
I have seen several articles recently about this sort of thing - geoblogging and tagging images with gps (or OS) co-ordinate information, or self build maps - where people are usig GPS to provide an alternative mapping for certain areas. This is starting to draw information out of the ether and tieing it down to the real world.
I must admit that this whole thing seemed a bit gimicky - there is perfectly good mapping already available and who cares where a photo was taken from - however, I can see more use for it the more examples I see. One thing I might start trying to use this is when I am staying away from home for work and get bored in the evenings. I could use something like this to find interesting places/ things to do (and actualy get there rather than wondering round for hours semi lost.)
There must be loads more uses which will emerge - particularly as gps enabled phones and pda's become more common. sorry about length. & will this do?
