I have an excuse for breaking the men cycle
since I have such hilariously oversized feet, if I see a pair that fit in the sale, I'll buy then whether i need them or not, just because I don't know the next time I'll find a pair that fit (I can never find any when I need them)
I have almost as many pairs as the missus. Almost.
And, no, I'm not paying High and Mighty prices, because they are clearly profiteering from the misfortune of the afflicted.

It's not true what they say about men with big feet..
If it was, I'd have to wear size 14 instead of size 9..

This applies for all clothing
I'm 6 foot 5 and have size 16 feet. When I see something that fits, I feel inclined to buy it simply because I don't often see things that fit, and I don't know when I'll need them.
Especially shoes, but also shirts.

have you ever had the shoe sales person show your old shoes to their colleague because they've never seen shoes get so bad they're literally falling apart?

I have....
.
Twice...
.
Well you do kinda have to get new ones when your current ones aren't puddle-proof anymore.

I've had shoes so knackered the cobbler refused to mend them.
Not quite falling apart at the seams, but they had a hole in the sole through which you could fit most of your hand.

Errr... not meant to be for you. Just something not worthy of it's own thread.
