I say we leave the country and start a new life in a better place.*

I've handed my notice in and am moving to edinburgh! 5 years in germany is long enough for me.

Two months in my job left, then I'm off to the Netherlands (Might Nibus), where I shall be lecturing kiddles in esoteric subjects, which sounds like a whole heap more fun that what I'm doing right now.

before getting (hopefully) paid to do a Masters in clinical psychology for children and young peoples. I've been doing neuroscience research for the last 5 years, and although it was interesting, the futility of it all became far too much to bear. Research without practise makes Jack a very dull boy.

sounds like an interesting time ahead. And yes, I've got a friend doing a theoretical physics PhD. I understand her research topic, I just don't see the point of measuring what she's measuring the way she's doing it because the experiment could never actually be done. Theory is a weird thing.

my problem was the idea of just doing research, analysing, writing and publishing, then starting again. I get why people do it, it just feels like a huge amount of work for not very much return other than a name on a paper. I don't think my chosen subject has an influence on the lives of anyone except desperate academics or students, looking for a paper to cite. So, a change will do me good.
All the best with your change and moving over there.

I combat my lack of shoes by not moving much. Can't wait to move back to the uk... a couple of years ago, I thought I'd never ever say that.

I made the mistake of mostly making friends with students. The large majority of my mates have now fucked off. (in addition to my job-hate)
