# yes
i blame in-jokes, people who take the rules too seriously and a lack of major development on the site.

What could be done to bring it back to life?
What kind of developments are needed?

An image uploader that operates at more than about 5 bytes per minute would be a start

# good question. but i'm not a web developer
but it would be nice not to have to keep reloading the page. perhaps if it could update automatically with ajax or whatever techno-script people use nowadays. perhaps we should all go on a feature request spree.

b3ta.com/questions/bugs_and_feature_requests/

the basic concept of the kind of imageboard we use seems a little bit old-fashioned don't you think? although it's clearly more up to date than the 4chan etc. kind of imageboard scripts.

# it is functional and simple
Too many features would just mess it up I think.
Things that could keep it simple and just about the content would be welcome so long as they were non-invasive and streamlined.

# To be fair this is one of the best messageboards I've seen, purely because of that.
The very fact that you don't have people posting a couple of words, followed by a signature that takes up half the screen on its own because it's full of the post that was replied to repeated again, random information (such as it is), a series of quotes, an endless sucession of animated gifs and smileys, anime porn, etc etc. I don't think the people on here would go for all that sort of thing in their posts anyway, but not having the ability in the first place keeps things tidy and you get more emphasis on the content that way.
Yes, board looks dated, but it does the job.

# i'm not complaining about the way it looks
just the way it works. a constantly auto-refreshing /board could help it to feel more "happening" (for want of a less unfashionable word) rather than the "static" feel it seems to have.

i think the way it looks is great.

# How about an option to see the latest posts?
I'm fed up of having to constantly scan through board to spot any recent additions to current threads. We can see the most popular posts, so it can't be too hard to do something similar for the newest posts, right?
(, Sun 14 Nov 2010, 19:35, archived)
# There is such an option
turn it on on your profile and new posts have a highlight on the left.
[ooh candles...]

# Thanks!
I was thinking of something similar to the popular board but this makes wasting time much more efficient.
(And yes, I did already have this option turned on.)

# It's a lot quieter & far more negative than when I first arrived.
Christmas soon, though.
*cheers up*

# I guess it's perspective, but I see less negativity now than I did when I first arrived here nearly 6 yrs ago
and /talk was twice as bad as /main
(, Sun 14 Nov 2010, 18:22, archived)
# /talk is a foreign land to me, so I cannot comment.
But /board does seems a little snippier, of late.
(, Sun 14 Nov 2010, 18:49, archived)
# this is much of the problem, there is no integration between the boards
i'm not sure of how they could be integrated, just that there should be some sort of way that they should interact with each other. in a nice way. rather than the occasional post of some scat porn on another board. :)
(, Sun 14 Nov 2010, 18:52, archived)
# I like pictures, so /board will always be my first port of call.
/links is always good, just to see what others think might be of interest.

But I'm afraid that every time I've looked at /talk, it seems to be lots of people telling each other to fuck off.
(in all fairness to the members of /talk - I've only strayed across on a handful of occasions, so my view is probably slightly askew)
(, Sun 14 Nov 2010, 19:25, archived)
# I think its just the natural ebb and flow of the internet
the majority of the people that were about when I signed up don't post images anymore. Maybe B3ta has run its course for them or maybe they're just currently too busy.
I know I don't have the inclination that I once did, mainly due to the sniping, but I'm also stuck being busy with the day job.
Swings and roundabouts.
