isn't it 8 days at a time before you need a doctor's note?
not sure how many times a year you could do it for though

I meant go to doctor and claim stress... get a note for month....
get paid.... write book... go back to work... win win ;-)

So you have about 9 months?
Well, less with printing/editing time. It's not that much of a squeeze, is it?

there's thinking time
drawing and writing,
then re-drafting, consultation etc

The worst that could happen is you don't finish it in time.
Thinking time can be done in quiet spots through the week, surely.
edit: fuck, you're not amoebaboy, but the point still stands, dammit.

It still seems worth going for to me. You might get more work off the back of it.

You might also want to invest some time in looking for a less cunty employer
and move to a day job that lets you have a little more time for other things. (Been there, done that)

Tell them *old relative* died and take a weeks compassionate leave.

shit! go for it
there comes a point in life when you should just trust in providence. find a way to get this book done even if it means fucking this job over. sometimes things have a habit of coming together when you trust your instincts :)

Write it in your own time.....for yourself... then aproach a publisher... then get royalties as well..

Good plan... if they approached you with a fixed offer, they know it's going to sell....
also , if they approached you, it's because they know that you can contribute something unique that no one else can to the book to make it sell more copies than if they got someone else to write it instead...
go for it and good luck

They would have records of approaching him with the idea.
Wouldn't writing it for himself would break some interllectual property laws?

I don't know....... he might have to go back in time and change history before anyone had thought of making it happen in the first place...

i hope thats not true
they could really fuck me up, nah,, just call it build robots from rubbish or some shit like that.

Pfft.,,,, stop pretending you don't know how to build a time machine......

if he hasn't accepted the offer
i would think that anything he does that doesn't break plagiary or copyright laws still counts as his own intellectual property

He should just put a hit on them and have them killed......
Then do it in his own time when he;s ready.....

g'night!
i could just go the cory doctorow route
and stick it on the internet for free, you dont have to worry about people nicking it, and people buy the book when it comes out anyway.

This would be less time consuming and less expensive than building a time machine....
Which ever way you do go dude..... hope you get it done the way you want it done.... and hopefully make lots of money too.. ;-)

Or break a couple of decent sized bones and sit and do it in hospital.

A good idea. Break a femur going bungee jumping drunk. You have the fun of getting pissed, probably have the fun of the bungee jumping though you won't remember, *and* break your leg. Or do what a friend of mine did. Get pissed, fall over the barrier at Liverpool St., wake up at the Royal London being interviewed by the police, and spend a fortnight in hospital on morphine.

I hope you manage it somehow.

As you can see, meebs, the quality of publishing advice available round here is piss-poor.
They ARE taking the piss, these joker publishers. Cynical as fuck. But if you fancy it, do it.
And sit aghast as they refuse your phone calls when they sell 1,000,000 copies for £1 - £2 via every shit discount outlet going, and you're stuck with £3k you've already spent, and no intellectual property rights.

perhaps you could outsource bits of the book to b3tards
there would need to be some editing to weed out the CDC's and such stuff.
but it could mean that you only actually have to do a quarter of the actuall work.
also, if you're coming up with the ideas as well as the illustrations then a flat rate doesn't sit right with me.i want a royalty as well as contol over what other medium they might want to port the format into in the future.
just a thought.
