on XP, Start > Documents .. - TA DAA. Either Hover over a bit or right click it for properties.

# I never use it.
Save most things on the desktop whilst working on it. Back it up to a "sort" folder on the network to cover for tits'up'ness and then file it away later.

I use google desktop to dig stuff back out. I'll have forgotten where it was saved after a few days.
Too much to remember anyways. I did read an interesting thing back when Bryce 5 was out. They wanted to make a program that sorted things in pictures. You remember real locations better so make the file system as real world as possible. So all your word files would be saved on the beach under the big blue pebble. All your porn would be in the bathroom picture under the loose floor board. A lot'o'faff. i'd save all my excel documents up the BBW's arse.

# I just have fixed places I put stuff :)
makes it easier

apart from the random old "collect the shit off the old hard drive and dump it in there and sort it out later" stuff

which of course becomes "thar be beasties" after 10 years :)

which I end up never using in any way again ever, I'm doing something wrong.

# I am only slightly concerned
but due to buying bigger and bigger hard drives each time, the "old files I should probably sort out" folders have been growing and growing, and taking up proportionally less of the total storage space.

There are times when I wonder if having a total backup failure and having to resort to square one might actually be therapeutic.

# what I find fun
is when you backup everything

and you format the old drive

and it's

oh

15 minutes in

there was stuff

think of kittens when it happens

# I did this on an old laptop
on which I'd saved around 200 photos from an amazing explore in a derelict school which was later demolished. Because it was a slightly naughty activity, I stored the photos in an obscure folder.

OK, all clear, all backed up, load up Darik's to format the drive to sell it on eBay. Well, that's going fine, I can go and make a cup of... hang on - the photos!
