pfft..
after watching that Jimmy Savile exposure on itv... There's a weird thing about the 50s/60s where inappropriate stuff with teenagers was almost accepted as the norm. (this is my perception of it)
lots of songs referring to it to: just look at the lyrics to "Young Girl", "Happy Birthday sweet 16" etc

Just watched it now...
Shocking, all those people who say they knew, even saw, what was going on yet didn't do anything.
I seriously think, as shocking as it may be, that culturally it wasn't considered a big deal, even though it was illegal.

it's not just a time thing though, all over the world opinion changes over what is appropriate
some countries frown on anyone doing the sexy time under the age of 20, so does that make most people in this country a nonce?
Or on the terrifying flip side, some places are as low as 9 years old :(

yeah, true..
I think theres a massive difference between two 14 or 15 yr olds experimenting with a fiddle and frap, and a 40 yr old Lamé wearing cigar chewer getting Rapey in the back of his car though.
personally, I think at 15 they're still babies.. I have a 17 yr old son and I still don't think he's emotionally ready for a sexual relationship.

I haven't watched it so forgive my only going by what the press have said
but why did these girls repeatedly jump at the chance for a ride in his car if they weren't happy to exchange a grope for an appearance on top of the pops?
Not saying he wasn't completely abusing his position of power and was a wrongun, but he didn't chloroform them or anything.

I guess
you do stupid things when you are a kid.
You've summed it up pretty well, most of the girls were dazzled by the Rolls, TOTP, being in the company of celebrity.
But there was a rather horrible story from a girls school for 'troubled' kids. Saville used the girls for his TV audience, and raised money for the school.
One girl accused him of molesting her, and for her troubles she was locked up in the schools equivelent of solitary for having the nerve to speak out against 'Uncle Jimmy'.

again this is the attitude of "bad things do not happen" and "therefore it didn't happen" and "you're making it up"
and "we don't want any trouble, shut the fuck up"
