I've lived there all my life, I'm sort of desensitized to most of the horror.

# I got a cab today, I was talking to the guy
His mother is in a nursing home, she's very ill, she's been told to sell her bungalow to pay for her care. That was meant to be sold and the money given to her grandchildren. So they're selling it as the nursing home is quite expensive, the point being, she's worked all her life and paid her NI and taxes, and for what?

to be fucked, that's what

# Sadly, that seems the norm now.
My grandmother is in a home and the same will happen to her worldly affairs (and, selfishly, my inheritance), and I know of at least two other friends whose family are going through similar things.
(, Thu 31 Jan 2013, 18:33, archived)
# The irony being the nursing home has several residents who have their care paid for them because they have no assets.

Great stuff

# Is inheritance not also part of the unfair way
money is divided, though?

It certainly allows people to be born with an advantage in life.

# As will the cab driver's mother as her money declines
Good planning will avoid this situation (transfer your house to a trustworthy relative, or even better a defined benefit trust).

# Yes
I mentioned this, apparently had she transferred the property to her son's name ten years ago, this wouldn't have happened.

Also there's some kind of seven year rule.

The system is fucked and it's sickening.

Also, as i'm mixed-race I was able to talk about immigration comfortably, it was a long conversation, which came down to:

Make those born here the priority, especially the elderly, irrelevant of race.
Turn away all immigants.
Fix the system.
Fuck the queen's ass.*

Most people of colour will agree that Britain is a 'soft touch' when it comes to immigration, it causes racial tension when someone who just entered the country gets a whole bunch of free shit and someone working their ass of can't get shit.

This is a long and complex issue, sadly the average white person/politician can't discuss it without being perceived as racist/pro BNP, it's a massive grey area.

# Mr Dekion.
Up to this point I have considered you a bit of a loony.
My Nan recently passed away and we had to sell her house to pay for her care in an admittedly good nursing home. Every penny was spent and my mother has just sold her own house because she needed to downsize as a result.
Your comments on this subject are valid. I like them. I want you to be Prime Minister too.
Your images have convinced me that actually, you are still a loony.
(, Thu 31 Jan 2013, 21:14, archived)
# Better the loony you know
Wouldn't want the wrong loony to get into power, now, would you?
