# Hmm
Although smaller, i'd say that is a feck of a lot meaner looking than a badger.

# But considerably
easier to confuse into submission - badger's are vicious bastards.

# That story took its time getting to Ananova.
It was on the local news when we were in Holguin a month ago.

one day i will stop banging on about cuba. but it was such a fucking great place and such a fucking intense holiday that it may take some time

And illustrates pretty much exactly why I want to go there. That and I'm a commie bastard.

# Sorry comrade, but the revolution is drawing to a close.
When they made the dollar legal tender in 1995, and started building big fuck off resorts along the east coast, and opened much of the country up to tourism, the whole communism thing started to look more and more anachronistic and pointless. Technically it's still a Marxist Leninist country, but pragmatically it's as hungry for long green as everyone else. And Fidel is 77.
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 13:07, archived)
# That's a very fair point.
Ideological communism is all I can ascribe to, as the practical invocation of the philosophy always involves far too many people who have their own agendas for it to work. I'm still fascinated by the country though, and feel that to see the "left-overs" of the communist regieme would be a real experience. Then, at least, I could see first hand why what I would love to work as a system of governance will never come to pass here...

# The trouble is, the Soviet system of over-bureaucrasising
everything in sight, and never letting anyone know anything about those above or below them in the system, doesn't sit well with the Latin American temperament. Plus the physical infrasructure has been crumbling badly since the Soviet Union fell. And even before that, it wasn't in the best of health.

It is, however, a wonderful country, very very beautiful, inhabited by people who are kind and caring and passionate and dignified and honourable. I've been dreaming about it regularly since I got back...

# There's something
about shoes and women which seems inherently interlinked. I, like you, have the minimum number of shoes at any given time - but, like you, have seen in practise the benefits of many shoes. It's a goddamn minefield.
