(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:35, archived)
# Yeah, tried google
wasnt that helpful really, but gave me a rough idea what it hink it is, just want to be sure though.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:36, archived)
# Fair enough.
Then try looking up betamax. I'm guessing that's what you're after.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:37, archived)
# If it is a betamax thing, i have no idea, see.
That's kinda what helped me with my assumption.
Bah

# Oh, and yes, Onslaught is fantastic
unless you get on a team witha bunch of idiots, then it's amazingly frustrating.

# You play as 'Stick Figure Ninja'?
I'll keep my eye out for ya! I'm on as King_Ralph. Oh yeah, if they're spacktards then just order them about!
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:41, archived)
# stick figuer ninja

# Beta?
not Betamax?

You can't be that young, surely.

(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:37, archived)
# I know betamax
all the thing in the email said was "Is PAL okay or do you want beta or digibeta?"
Just wanna make sure i'm right.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:39, archived)
# I think
there may be a broadcast quality format with 'beta' in the name too - I forgot about that.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:40, archived)
# broadcast quality
beta

Better: BetaSP

digibeta is the cleanist broadcast quality
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:44, archived)
# Ooo, sounds like you know what you're on about
if so, i'm assumign beta and digibeta cant be read by an oridnary video player?
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:47, archived)
# exactly
are you sending to broadcast BBC etc. or cable TV
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:49, archived)
# Then it's almost certainly betamax.
It's an alternative video format which is still used extensively in the movie and tv industries. Digibeta is just the digital version. They never caught on commercially as consumer products, but they offer advantages for professionals in those fields.

edit: Or maybe what Bob said. Unless he's lying.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:41, archived)
# Well, it's a tv related thing
so yeah, that seems likely.
I'll just go for PAL then, as VHS I can manage easily.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:44, archived)
# but...
betamax is simply a tape format - not an alternative to PAL.

I could be wrong about the other thing - I would never have been able to afford a broadcast quality camera.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:45, archived)
# See, that's what got me confused
if it said VHS, then yeah, i would understood.
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:46, archived)
# Broadcast TV Stations generally require BETA to broadcast
cable stations will accept anything
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:48, archived)
# Yes
Betamax or VHS : Video formats
PAL or NTSC or SECAM : TV signal formats
(, Fri 20 Feb 2004, 22:48, archived)
# What's
the context?

The Betamax format is still alive and well in camcorders, albeit in much smaller tapes than the original.
