Anyone here know what beta or digibeta is?

It's an alternative video format which is still used extensively in the movie and tv industries. Digibeta is just the digital version. They never caught on commercially as consumer products, but they offer advantages for professionals in those fields.

betamax is simply a tape format - not an alternative to PAL.
I could be wrong about the other thing - I would never have been able to afford a broadcast quality camera.
