# Greetings B3tans!
I come in peace!

OK, I've only posted a few times, so I'm still a newbie, and hence I have come for Photo/potato Shop/chop hints/mints.. ahem... Basically, I'd appreciate some helpful tips and tricks that make a B3tan's life easier and more full of hummus...

(By the way, if any of those memes was a faux pas, please let me know!)

# click on everything in sight
see what you can make the program do.
Honest, that's what I did.

[edit] Although you probably aspire a bit higher than my levels of kitten-obessed hummus.
[edit again] And the Chief is right - layers are good and must be preserved.

# "Play with it lots, see what comes out"
That sounds very rude. :)

I can't say I know what you're on about, mind. :)

# Photoshop a kitten.
That will get you in with the in-crowd.

And be sure not to start a thread with a repost, or you will be thrown to the bears :)

Ed: Oh. But I can't help you with photoswap, soz.

# in-crowd?
on b3ta.com? Surely not. This ain't popbitch you know.
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:19, archived)
# Well the in-crowd
consists of everyone. Because everyone loves a kitten.

# It's all about
layers.

Remember that and you can't go far wrong.

[edit] and filters. I had a lot of fun with filters when I first discovered Photoshop but now I find I don't use them much. Funny that. Apart from the unclear bomb of course.

# Like an onion.
Onions have layers, so does Potatoshop.

# You never hear anyone saying
"Hell, no, I don't like no Parfait."
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:38, archived)
# i had
never heard of parfait until this moment, and even went so far as to look it up at dictionary.com. it sounds nice. why have i never had it? *sob*

and I cant remember the rest of the line.

# now if photoshop was like parfait.....
....everybody loves parfait

# Another (brief) question then...
If you were trying to extricate, say, a kitty from a photo, how would you go about it? And without hurting the poor (evil) kitty...
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:19, archived)
# What I do is crop the picture as close as possible
then I draw around the kitten with the lasso tool or I sometimes use the pen tool.
Then invert the selection and delete, clean up the remaing image and thats it.
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:21, archived)
# Trace round him
with the polygonal or magnetic lassooooooo till it goes all wiggly (ants) and then cut and paste elsewhere
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:21, archived)
# And adding a bit
of feather after you have traced round him never hurts (too much)... And it means your cut out will blend in a bit better :-)
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:26, archived)
# i tend
to make it a new layer and then delete everything using the selection tool and the eraser
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:27, archived)
# Create a layer mask
around the outlines of the kitten, then feather the edges until the background disappears. This method has the advantage that it's non-destructive, so you can always restore the kitten if you cut off too much.
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:27, archived)
# And I use the image extract tool a lot
I find it easier to use than the lasso tool
(, Wed 11 Sep 2002, 10:56, archived)
# Am I the only one
That uses the "Extract-> inteligent edge thingy"?
