# This was my original idea
but thought it was a bit drawn out having the father state "See son, I told you it wasn't superman now cough up that £50 your Nan has just given you as a Birthday Present a bet's a bet!"

# Crikey
I shall make my riduclous cartoons more true to life in future.

# Haha!
Except they wouldn't go so splat.

We have bones and skin for a reason. I had this discussion with my friends already.
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 20:56, archived)
# Well I was reliably informed by someone
who witnessed such a horrific jump that in actual fact the skin is no more protection than the skin on a tomato and the bloke did indeed go splat however the jumpee was a student and probably malnorishment had lead to weak skin and a spotty complexion - although somewhat more spotty in the end.
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 20:59, archived)
# I just would think that clothes could factor in somewhat.
And there is that picture of the overweight person who went splat without bloodyness... shirly you've seen it.
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:02, archived)
# I'd rather not.
I suppose it depends on velocity + distant / strength of clothing and skin.

# works the same as a Crumplezone in a car
the increase in size (especially as fat is easily moveable and malleable and not attached as tort that muscles and so on) would allow the momentum to dissipate over the greater distance, thus decreasing the final force acted upon the body
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:05, archived)
# Thank you kind sir.
There was one discussion with someone that went no-where though. They said you could easily burn up if you jumped off a building.
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:08, archived)
# A burning building?
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:10, archived)
# correct the force of the impact would cause the internal organs and meaty bits to tear open the skin
thus splat would occur, maybe not as severe as the picture suggest but given enough distance then yes, splat would occur.
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:03, archived)
# You are the Prof. Stephen Hawkin of teh splat
;)
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:04, archived)
# Tv lies then.
When ever anyone is seen jumping off a building, they just end up as a thing on the pavement with very little visible damage.

This reminds me. I should get more Placebo...
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:05, archived)
# it's very dependent on how far and weight/size all that tat
the splat is from instant tear and outlet of energy (in inside form)
(, Thu 2 Feb 2006, 21:06, archived)
# Yes TV does lie
they do so so as to not disturb people with horrific gore. The amount of blood from such a fall is gorey enough but in many movies the body is hardly damaged at all which is stupid.
