actually
(nb, i grew up in italy)
got a very late night ferry one time, about 15 years ago, in the car with my dad. must have been 4am or so we got to dover. no-one else around on the road.
so being tired, lack of signs, etc, we drove round the first roundabout the wrong way round.
cue sudden stop 10s later when he realised what we'd just done :)

my mate drove round a roundabout the wrong way, and 6 miles up
a dual carriageway before realising that the roadworks that had been there for the last 6 weeks (and making everybody drive on that side) were gone and the road had in fact been re-opened.. when we asked had he not wondered where all the cones went he said.. "I though they had been nicked"
and he lives here.....
edit.. oh it was 6 in the morning though...

Continental?
How do you know that they've not just got off the ferry from the USA? Honestly, if you're going to design road signs then you must learn not to make assumptions about your readership.
