the king of image files, as long as you don't want to view them in IE... nice quality transparent pics into Flash though

i use pngs for all bitmap images in flash these days
you can had feathered edges on them too (although you want to keep an eye on filesize if you do that)

I did everything with a combination of paintshop and animationshop
But having the bits and pieces nicely imported into flash will make things so much easier.
