# middle of the night flufftime!
one of my friends was riding her bike home...
and she found a baby mouse by its dead mother in the road...
she is taking care of it and it is cute!

she fed him cream from an eyedropper...you can see some in his whiskers!

and he is sleeping in a bed made of yarn!

anyone taken care of one of these before and have some useful tips for her?

# Teh baby mice dislike Harry Potter intensely.
It is much better to read them Kurt Vonnegut novels instead.

# I found this

What a sweet little thing, and how sad :(

Wow, it's tough to care for them at that age. They need to be stimulated to pee and poop, just like very young orphaned kittins.

# Damp paint brush a few minutes after feeding.
Worked for chipmunk kits. They start
getting sluggish and spitty if they back up.
edit: keep paper handy squirting is expected.

# That makes sense.
They suggest a cotton bud in the article.

Christ knows what they were thinking putting her in such a malevolent-looking outfit.
But it probably gave a few b3tardz a cheap laugh, so it was worth it in the end.
Apart from all those psychologically wounded little 'uns, of course.

# oh, i didn't get that at first.
tired here, off to bed in a moment. i think i have fontographer here somewhere, can't recall anymore (discs flying everywhere). i'd like a stripy font, not too regal or serify, but not cartoonish either. and thin, tall, not squat and lardy like impact. or a font made up od squids.

but i am off now, got to be up early for doctor appointment.

'night.

wash hands before handling, and wear cotton gloves if you have them. humans have lots of germs to impart upon newborns.

# hahaha
funny thing is when i showed my mom the pictures
her response was "it's a wild mouse! those carry so many diseases!"

"but, mom...it's so cute and it would have died!"

"still...*shudders*"

"sorry for showing you the picture, mom...hope you don't get any diseases...from the picture..."
(, Tue 31 Jul 2007, 5:57, archived)
# heh. i grew up on a farm and my mother was a hopeless fool for those ideas.
"you'll catch cold from being out without a jacket!"

"germs lurk everywhere! you will die if you touch anything outside my home!"

reminds me of the nuts cartoon by gahan wilson. 'the kid' (main character, never given a name) gets sick and hears his parents talking about germs. he imagines them as huge, slimy crawling things that talk to him and tell him they're going to kill him.

lose their body heat more rapidly then larger ones so they need to be kept warm. Also because of this they eat more and more often.

it might be worth putting it on about 30 degrees and putting it in a bed of tissue paper to help keep baby warm.
