How is your world this morning?
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:54, archived)
# Not too bad.

I'm counting down the days until I go on holiday (the Monday after next) and then hand in my notice (when I get back from holiday).

:)

# you're living the dream!!
have you got a swish new job to go to?
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:59, archived)
# No.
I have no job to go to, nor much in the way of savings.

I'm going to start freelancing, but I don't have any clients lined up either. I'm taking a massive gamble. :)

# you'll do fine!
you can always do your cartoons on the roadside for cash if you get pushed...
=)

I'd have to go into the greetings card industry. I'd do strange and disturbing cards that you'd give to people you don't really like that much.

Slight TJ: Crisis!!!

I need a decent, reliable webhost. Mine has fallen over.

Any suggestions?

# What kind of package?
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:52, archived)
# I need to host two domains
1gb storage (at least)
and decent bandwidth allowance (not sure how much i need, but my current one has bombed out at 250MB)
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:55, archived)
#
I don't use them myself, but fasthosts (http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/) seem quite good, and they might do the package you're after.
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:57, archived)
# dreamhosts
if you go to www.mictoboy.co.uk
and click the tiny banner, i get a kick back

they've been nothing but good for me, and mystery bob uses them too, so they must have something going for them
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 9:03, archived)
# Looks good...
toss up between chunky up front payment, huge package (way-hey!) and micto's undying love

or cheap and cheerful fasthost...

*ponders*
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 9:20, archived)
# i used to use fasthosts and they were ok as far as i remember
so., meh, whatever :)
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 9:22, archived)
# And
www.strato-hosting.co.uk/ if you want to go really cheap. Don't know how reliable they are though. Got a couple of mates using that one and it seems to all work just fine.
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 9:08, archived)
# Dreamhost
seriously
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:53, archived)
# someone else mentioned that
they're US based. would that be an issue for me in the UK, d'yoyu think?
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:56, archived)
# Not normally,
and you'd get a good exchange rate. There might be issues if you're hosting porn though. ;)
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:58, archived)
# that's not a problem....
at least not yet ;)
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 8:59, archived)
# The only one issue I can think of is if you need to use their phone support.

It might cost you a bit to phone Americaland.
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 9:02, archived)
# They handle almost everything via e-mail
quite effectively.
(, Fri 12 Oct 2007, 9:09, archived)
# No, I don't think so
Although they don't host the .nl names themselves. I have to do that somewhere else.

But you can easily fit about 20 websites on one package (I have about ten now on one acount, and use only about 5% of the disk space). They're quite reliable and their service is grand.
