I do not begrudge the American spellings on certain words, but their propensity to drop letters from words just fucks me off like nobody's business! And don't even get me started on fucking aluminium! Or, sorry, Aluminum as those fucktards spell it! Why? They have no problem whatsoever with any other ~ium as far as I am aware!
(, Fri 4 Apr 2008, 16:55, archived)
# It was originally called Aluminum over here as well
however while the british society of chemists decided that since so many elements ended with 'ium' it was only fair to change aluminum to aluminium to fit the rest, the american society of chemists decided to leave it as it was originally.

so it was actually a case of us lot meddling that time.

Just so you know. :)

# It was the British who put the C in scissors and the H in anchor
in an attempt to make our language appear more prestigious (i.e. more like Latin).

Our language is shit and complicated and not worth making a fuss over.

# Cock off!
I'm right and they're wrong!

But if that were the case, surely it would still be in the OED as a correct spelling from the English side? Which it isn't....

TJ: does anyone know why I can't put a design on any colour t-shirt except white on spread shirt?
(, Fri 4 Apr 2008, 16:36, archived)
# Because the spreadshirt t-shirt designer is buggy and intensely irritating.
It's doable, but it just gets pissy sometimes. I hate it.
