# *doesn't get the whole 'sports' thing*
So excuse me while I threadjack:

Does anyone have any comments/thoughts on this hard drive? I need a new one for my Mac and this one is on offer at Amazon, I believe:

# That's quite pricey for an external hard drive of that size
check amazon, they have quite a few 500GB and 750Gb drives for that price.

there is a 500Gb Western Digital drive on there for £56

# I've got a 500GB MyBook which is cheaper than that
it's fine if a tad noisy

# yer, I got the 750gig one - am surprised how noisy it is
looks nice though

# I'd quite like a silent USB-powered one, really.

# Try this one:

It's one I've got and it's really good value for money, plus it's bigger space.

# The fact that it's got the word Value in its name puts me off.
Plus, there's some bad reviews of it on the Apple site.
(, Fri 20 Jun 2008, 13:05, archived)
# True, but that's all opinion.
Same as I reckon it's good.
I think it's only got 'Value' in it's title because it's an older model now.

# i'm far from an expert on these things
but i have a chum who spends longer than i consider healthy comparing prices of stuff gave me a leaflet for this lot
www.dabs4work.com
the other day, his company(big firm of city solicitors)use them and the prices look good,i'm rather taken with some of the monitors.

# 22" for £110? - a bargain!
/realises that read out of context, the above reply may appear 'dodgy'
(, Fri 20 Jun 2008, 12:21, archived)
# that's what i thought
as soon as i find out what all that contrast ratio stuff means i may be tempted, i like the look of some of the lg stuff.
(, Fri 20 Jun 2008, 12:24, archived)
# The higher the number on the left of the colon, the better picture quality.
e.g. a monitor with a contrast ratio of 800:1 is shite, whereas 1200:1 is very good, but 1800:1 is optimum.

# so this is ok then
(, Fri 20 Jun 2008, 12:31, archived)
# Yes, exceptionally so.
Especially for a computer monitor, LG monitors are superb.
You never have to worry about picture quality with them. You're only problem is built-in speaker won't be great.

# splendid
my speakers are off most of the time anyway. i hate things that make beeping, ping or any noises that tell me its doing something. also safeguards against unexpected horses.
