I needed something like this to brighten me up, I've had a shitty day and you get a high five.

My fucking macbook hard drive died. about 1 week out of warranty, and only a few weeks before I had the money to buy a portable drive and do a big backup. I'm not happy, and can't draw anything now.
But I had already done one, so it's all good.

I think I'll do a backup/cleanse tomorrow

I basically took it out and smacked it repeatedly with my palm a few times, this somehow knocked whatever loose part was causing it not to spin properly and it lasted another three months before melting down again.
Also you can probably recover the data depending on what the issue is.

Although I'd rather take another whack at it than let my Dad and his half arsed manner be the final say.
He doesn't have any HFS+ recovery stuff as far as I'm aware, and I'm not willing to pay for a program that might not even work, so I'm happy to leave it as a lost cause if I can't sort it soon. I've got a new drive on the way that's double the size, but it's just fucking inconvenient.

I have no idea how much it costs though.

My brother does a lot of recovery stuff, but with NTFS rather than HFS+, so I might need to wet his beak a bit.

Take the palattes out of old harddrive with data on, swap with new blank harddrive.
Of course this is sort of dependent on how easy harddrives are to take apart, and they aren't. Stupid magnets.

About the HD, I sympathize. You may be able to recover it yourself though, there are loads more utilities available for mac/unix users than windoze users.

if you can't find an ubergeek to deal with it you may have to bite the bullet and pay to have it recovered like I did. AT LEAST THEN YOU CAN SAY YOUR PICTURES HAVE A MONETARY VALUE.

I'm not pleased, as it's 160gb and a years worth of data.
However, upon reflection it's basically just music and PSDs of cats.
I've got all of my pictures hosted on my site, so I could go on a mass downloading spree to get the backup

I'm just gonna whack both series of Big Train on random and hit the hay. I've gotta be up in a few hours to have my teeth scraped and all that.
HELLOOOO PHOBIA.
