# Ning ning...
I has just come back from teh Alps. Bit RPS-ish, this, but I had to stick the thing together and even out some of the brightness and contrast, so counts as shopped in my book.

Did I miss any excitement?

# I like a bit of panorama shots, me
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 8:59, archived)
# For panoramic multi-photos you need to lock the exposure and shutter for all the photos
Then each photo will be at the correct lightness levels
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 9:15, archived)
# surley when you rotate the camera
with the same settings you'll get a dark picture at the sides, over exposed at the sun and normal only on one angle?
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 9:16, archived)
# You can fix the overall exposure in Photoshop
but if you use auto settings then it will make stitching far harder.

Also you don't normally make a 360º panorama unless that's what you're specfically after and if you are you would take multiple exposure checks first and find the best average if you're really ambitious a HDR 360º by bracketting.
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 9:26, archived)
# I tried some,got exposures right
but because the camera wasn't absolutely level, the perspectives/barelling were too much to stitch together properly. Some day I might get a tilt-shift lens
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 9:39, archived)
# It's all down to the pivot point (nodal point of the lens) of the camera
a lot of people simply mount it on a tripod and pan but the pivot point is therefore directly under the camera and will cause distortion. There are brackets that you can attach to the tripod to ensure the pivot point is directly under the lens and not the camera body.

# Thanks for the link
at @ £100 I think I'll DIY one as its only 3 bits of metal.I had planned to use a spirit level against the lens front the next time, but all this will have to wait for the next summer trip to the lake district

Edit.....The laser level is a great idea, They're sometimes dead cheap in places like Aldi etc

Which bit of the Alps? French or Swiss?

I have a set of pics that I took in Lausanne looking out over Lake Geneva on the alps, but I still haven't put them together since May :D
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 9:25, archived)
# French Alps
Loads of fun, but incredibly pricey given that we got less than one Euro to the pound. 7 quid for a pint. Ouch.

# Shuddering fuck!
:S

It was only 1.25 a bottle of beer in Switzerland in May. Not sure how much the fx rate has changed there....

# Mercifully we were fully catered...
which seemed like a pricey option when we paid for it in the summer, but in hindsight was definitely the way to go. I shudder to think what it would have run to if we had had to go out for meals and buy all our own booze...
(, Mon 12 Jan 2009, 9:50, archived)
# Oh well, look on the bright side,
Yeah, it was pricey, but to get a cheap holiday at the moment, you'd have to go to Faliraki ;)
