(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:44, archived)
# No
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:45, archived)

12 months MOT
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:46, archived)
# Its big and silly
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:48, archived)
# its not big
its only got a wheelbase of 86 inches
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:49, archived)
# Its still a pointlessly big car/truck
I wouldnt buy it
It will do fuck all to the gallon
And it will be a bitch to park
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:50, archived)
# Free road tax I believe
and you don't worry about parking these, you either just shunt other cars out of the way or drive over them
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:54, archived)
# oh and £150 to insure (i'm 27...) thats cheap for me!

(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:58, archived)
# I hope you don't like comfort.
Those lightwieghts are basic to say the least. It might have a heater - if you're lucky. Top speed 65mph-ish.

Also definately wont impress the birds.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 23:14, archived)
# do you live in wales?
its smaller than a merc
who cares about mpg? besides for £300 you can get LPG
and as for parking... easy you can see the back - WHICH is flat!
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:54, archived)
# Wales is smaller then a merc!
Then dont buy it!!!
DONT!!!
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:55, archived)
# double negatives!
back of the net! hoorah!
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:00, archived)
# it's probably diesel
it's probably got spectacular mileage, although it might eat oil
it's probably got quite a light frame (iirc the bodywork0 is aluminium, maybe)

it's got good visibility and has a smaller footprint than most modern family saloons

and you know no-one is going to fuck with you in traffic
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:54, archived)
# sorry its 2 1/4 petrol
maybe = correct
this ^^
plus when you're in wales... you need one of these to get over the potholes... keep falling in them in my herald (which does about 23mpg!)
edit : plus its 50+ years old, think of how many cars have been made in that time to replace this old workhorse? thats right more than 1! recycling cars is good for shoes and the environment... or something i wasn't really listening
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:56, archived)
# how much?
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:45, archived)
# 6 million dollars...
*gotta haggle the price down abit yet...
having a look at it tomorrow - how much would you pay?
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:46, archived)
# I think they were about 37/6 new
*envies the chance*
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:48, archived)

(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:03, archived)
# I'd have to see it

Exhaust? How does it run? Any serious rust damage?
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:48, archived)
# new chassis, rebuilt bulkhead
(plus i've got a spare rear tub from many moons ago in the shed + some extras like new horn push (£80ish) etc etc)

(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:51, archived)
# 400 quid
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:54, archived)
# with 12 months MOT?
okay i'll take it - when can i collect it?
(seriously how much?)
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:56, archived)
# I'd not be offering more than 300 for it.
You'd be better off buying a 10 year old 7 seat discovery 4x4 for under a grand if you want that kind if utility vehicle.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:06, archived)
# most of the 10 year old discovery i looked at are rotten
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:12, archived)
# ebay is not the book price
of vehicles. It's just a snapshot of what people think they can get away with.
As I say, why pay for something like that at a hugely inflated price based on nostalgia when the vehicle that will outlast them all happens to be a Toyota.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:25, archived)
# ....that was a given example...
use google... you'll see that they aint cheap
www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C67235

www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C75079
www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C71129
www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C59602 - last one needs work for an MOT - the one i'm looking at has 12 months MOT

# Toyota Hi-Lux.
That is all. Has the added advantage of not being British and unreliable.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:56, archived)
# toyota hilux...
pfft - you can keep that, i've not owned anything non British (car wise!)
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 23:01, archived)
# Up to you.
The fact remains that when your land rover falls to bits you can throw it all in tha back of a 30 year old hi lux and drag it to the quarry for dumping.
It's is the most indestructible 4x4 on the road.
I know you like British but I speak my mind and I have some knowledge of land Rover.
You are paying for nostalgia and certainly not product.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 23:04, archived)
# you'll be wanting to plan any corners then.
iirc the steering was like it had been made by british leyland.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:14, archived)
# corners smorners... drive through things in that
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:18, archived)
# I said he'd be better off.
I would not touch either of them. I have a Mitsubishi Warrior for my 4x4 needs.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:23, archived)
# oh dear god!
you've not got the awkward back cab bit that looks like it's come from a different airfix kit have you? it's like they got the guy who designed the fiat multipla to do it.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:25, archived)
# hehe.
No I don't have the bed cover. I had one on my old L200.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:28, archived)
# by 4x4 i assume you mean
the school run and that pot hole near waitrose, which seems to what most people use them for.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:31, archived)
# pfft.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:34, archived)
# yes
you've shown that to me before. tarmac, tarmac, you lucky bastard, i dream of tarmac, it's all dirt roads and oxen pulling carts round these parts.

:D
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:39, archived)
# How old?
Or does that not matter on Land rovers?

And as were TJ-ing....
How much does it cost to mend a laptop screen?
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:48, archived)
# Backlight?

(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 21:48, archived)
# We got a new (much better )one on the insurance,

# I'll give you lifts places ^_^
Oooh, I so want a Land Rover but can't reeeeally afford one.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:03, archived)
# you gonna drive all the way to wales just to give me lifts places?
...well i goto work every morning... so when you moving in? :D
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:19, archived)
# i say yes
mrs thor says i'll look the bollocks in a car like that so it's bound to up you se rating with the ladies by at least 19.7%, and that's science fact.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:09, archived)
# is that 19.7% guarenteed?
I mean the herald works wonders too... *look around...* well i can dream
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 22:16, archived)
# my brother had an old herald hard top
it had a walnut dash and was in tip top condition until some twunt went into the side of him on a roundabout.

19.7% is 100% certified by the royal bank of scotland.
