I lived there for 4 years and it still looks pretty grim when I drive through it.
But I could only afford to rent shit-holes when I was a student.

My ex lived on like the outskirts bit past sainsburys and one of the parks and it was nice.

Never mind, it's easy to escape from with the trains and buses.
Plus there's some nice walks along the canal and Cannon Hill Park isn't too far away with all it's lovely furry Red Pandas and Lemmings and things.
