If you've read the book
then go and watch it as if it's a totally different film and only tangentially connected, and you'll really enjoy the film. Well worth it.
If you've not read the book then fucking go and read the book, it's superb.

Right - I'll start with the book.
I ruined 'No Country for Old Men' for myself by seeing the (excellent) film first, so I won't make the same mistake.

I'd recommend it that way round
but the film and book are different enough beasts that you could probably get away with it. It's just reading the book and then going watching the film and expecting a straight adaptation of the book... doesn't work.

That's it,
I'm reading the book tomorrow and then watching the film the day after, if possible.

It is.
But I'd say you lack ambition. Read the book tomorrow, then watch the film in the evening. Then on Sunday do both again to make sure you catch the differences between and nuances of both. At the end of the weekend you'll be exactly where you planned to be, but will have acheived oh so much more. :)
